Frame of Reference: All Skills are bound by the character's Setting (physics), and the details that their culture/society's Science (gathered by Technology), direct experience, and/or collective Records are capable of revealing. Black Mother (sect of Gloombringer)

Posted on June 7, 2022 in Steel-Realms

Steel Realms

The Black Mother sect of Gloombringer predominantly a manifestation venerated as a core part of the Nurthling faith of Shadren. The Black Mother is able to grow anything in the dark, and helps to provide Sustenance and for communities and Nurth children. She teaches them strict observance of Nurth community norms and practices for the faith. Those that fail are “given over to the patch”. The Black Mother is she who turns the foul into fair, waste into produce, the broken are made well – all within the context of what these terms mean to the Nurth.

Mother’s Patch

A Mother’s Patch is a patch of fungus sacred to the Nurth community and imbued with the power to quickly process waste, sacrifices, and victims into nourishing fungus. The patch begins as an consecrated altar of the Black Mother – upon it are heaped the offal and waste of the commnity, and a sacrifice is made. It is from this patch that the “Black Mother’s Sourlings” – shrieker guardians, black slimes, green slimes, and death fungus’ – are brought forth. When a priest of the Black Mother dies, their holy presence and power are given over to the Mother’s Patch.

Guardian Shrieker Shared with Orrish: The Nurth have given over the Death Shriek Ritual to make the Shrieker to the Orrish through the Shadren faith of the Black Mother, but have kept the other creatures they Conjure from their patch a secret – these are the guardians of their communities. This is a fungus that looks a lot like a sponge. A potion of consecrated blood – unholy elixir, and excrement and waste cover it and within 24 hours a mushroom like “creature” will sprout, getting larger over the next few days. Within its caps are tubes and holes – those not of Nurth odor (or the odor of the grower(s) – who must remain close for a few hours) will set off its bellows like a shriek. The larger it grows, the farther its detection.

Realm's Aptitude Powers: Divine, Occult, and Psychic

Like all faiths of the Steel Realms, a single divine principal has multiple aspects but shares key qualities. There are several small cults and orders in addition to the larger and more well known ones.

There is even rumors of a sect of Gloom Bringer among the Ducateon, that follow the ways of “The Encroaching Darkness” and are killers of the priests of Maðr. They believe that Maðr is a deceiver and holding the Ducateon back in their rigid society. For them, the way to evolve is to turn inward, and the path is dark. The dark must be traversed in order to find the way.

Posted on April 18, 2022 in Steel-Realms

Steel Realms

The Lowland Territories of the Earldom of Bar-Innis in the Duchy of Dunstrand; It is a core part of The Lilylands. It is lead by the Council of Lowlanders, the league is a mutual trade and protection ring created to try and offset the economic advantages of the larger and more esteemed cities of Bar-Innis. Its council offices are in Osmail Mark, and is overseen by the Baron of that place.

Pine Tribe Descendants: The lowlands are home to the descendants of old pine tribe bloodlines. A few still incorporate their ways, but they are shadows of what they once were. They have been integrated into the local culture, which does dovetail into a lot of old notions of the Freelander Way.

Goods: The wet soil is extremely verdant and grows a bounty of vegetables. Cauliflowers, celery, spinach, groundnuts, garden pea, arugula, watercress, asparagus, mint, taro, skirret, cabbage, and black chokeberry.
