Lenore (ruins on Tarly estate)

Steel Realms

The Ruins of Lenore lie outside the Ruins of Tarly Castle on the Tarly Lands. The castle is visible just north of the ruins of Lenore. Lenore was once a village, and where Sir Wendell Tarly’s family was from. He built it into a larger town but when his doom came, it and the castle were abandoned like the rest of his estate.

Ruins of the original hamlet of Lenore

Ahead the road covering thins and opens to an overgrown area devoid of any but a few trees. The woods surrounding Lenore or the castle were never cleared much. Approaching to within 30m of the outskirts, you can see the woods surround the castle lands entirely. They are dark and tangled. The foundations of many buildings can be seen, all crumbled into the earth and few left above a meter tall. Stagnant water pools everywhere. Even from the distance of 80m you can smell rot. The faint sound of insects buzzing can be heard. Nothing stirs here… Your senses say nothing is there, but you sense something is not right.

Pervasive Knowledge / Very Easy Difficulty

Lenore was built up by Wendel from its hamlet state to really do nothing more than house and supply about 60 or so professional soldiers in the lowlands of Bar-Innis. The soldiers would be a resource for his lord as well, and provide a defense against any aggression from any northern neighbors or strange creatures from the swamp in case they got past the patrols of Bergen. A church to Gaia and school of combat would have been big draws for all sorts.

There was a good water supply, barley fields, a a small orchard, vegetables, and some fruit trees were planted in preparation… and it all turned sour for Wendel.

Common Knowledge / Easy Difficulty

He had hoped to attract followers of Light and Mizras and create a military academy to also fund it.

Wendell’s restless spirit shared some of this, and was the inspiration ultimately for the Gallantine Academy.
