Holt of Bromek-Mar (Ducateon ruins)

Posted on July 14, 2025 in Steel-Realms

Steel Realms

The Holt of Bromek-Mar is an ancient Ducateon ruin of a holt that was long ago buried. Over the ages, some of the entrance and upper ruins have been exposed through natural disasters (tremors). Bromek-Mar was once a Ducateon Outholt, last occupied in CY 8017. The Ducateon folk collapsed and abandoned it when the resources began to get difficult to extract, as they normally do, and they no longer felt like jeopardizing their folk so close to The Deeping of the Steel Realms and the constant incursions from the undead in Fallen Dundaria and The Valley of Sighs. These days it is used only as a place of rest by dwarven travelers and scouts from Rekka-Cheq & Sun Stone Top, scouts from Three Blades of Ceith Grebatain, and World Watchers scouting the area. This location bears the Frost-Melded mark an ancient encounter with the Dragon of Rhyl.

It once brought Iron, nickel, diamonds, and coal out of the area. It served as a bastion against the Orrish from the Dark Lands coming through the mountains to raid.

It is south of Sun Stone Top, high in the peaks of the Tolkisson Mountain Range.

Rime Basin Peaks

Posted on June 10, 2025 in Steel-Realms

Steel Realms

The Rime Basin Peaks is the east boundary of the Barony of Cunee along the Tolkisson Mountain Range marking the NE boundary of the Grand Duchy of Rhyl in the northern heartlands. Other than some of the Ilbarsi Hill People traveling north from Orb Lake, the area has only one known ‘trail’ leading into it – The White Stairs. This location bears the Frost-Melded mark an ancient encounter with the Dragon of Rhyl.

Copper and Silver Mining: There are three operations for mining copper and silver in Rime Basin Peaks feeds smithies of the City of Fortun.

Barrier Against the Lich Lords

On the northern edge of the Crags of Ilbarsia are a stretch of peaks the run to North Gate Garrison called the Rime Basin Peaks – all part of the Tolkisson Mountain Range. Here is the sacred deep lake of Rime Cauldron of Kaerslein – Elemental Consort of Water, one of her most sacred places. A massive iced waterfall called Kaerslein’s Veil spills into it, in a roil of fog and mist that spill out into multiple low point basins generating an icy rain in the high hills – creating a mystical barrier against the minions of the Lich Lords from coming over the mountains from the Oderach Valley on the other side of the main Tolkisson Mountain peaks.

Rime Cauldron

The Rime Cauldron is a deep high mountain lake that is a catch basin that feed many streams and other basins lower down. It is said that there is a creek path carved out that runs parallel to The White Stairs for animals and followers of the elemental goddess to travel – but this is only rumor.

Kaerslein’s Veil

The Rimewyld of Kaerslein

The “Rimewyld of Kaerslein” is a Briarwood of singular power. It is warmed by the sun’s reflection off Kaerslein’s Veil. It is surrounded in fog and mist. It is not a place of sanctuary for travelers – only a place of power for priests and druids of the Green Church and Wyld Faith. It is a place of hard testing and harsh conditions.

Declymor Basin/Rock of Declymor

Posted on June 2, 2025

Steel Realms

This is in a basin where a meteorite struck tens of thousands of years ago in The Bromarre Stretch. The basin has become a pond at the bottom of a 25m deep hole. The broken walls drain any other water than the 3m at the bottom. There is a piece of rift rock sticking out of the southern side called the Rock of Declymor (deck-li-mor). Once there was a lot of blue-green meteorite glass, but its all been removed from the area. Every now and then, a piece can be found after an earthquake or surface shift. This location bears the Frost-Melded mark an ancient encounter with the Dragon of Rhyl.
