Settlements

A Settlement is a locale that has access to supplies, materials, utilities, and services that allow groups larger than immediate family to coordinate. These efforts go to create and maintain it, enlarge it if necessary, allowing efficient communication, resource sharing, resource accumulation & storage. Settlements have social and political structures to manage them. Most Settlements will have a general Settlement Upbringings associated with them.


Settlements are actual places of dwelling. They all have some common properties. Some are related to institutions, some familial or by business.

Settlement Types

Residence: Single

familial dwelling – duplex, townhome, home, etc.

Residence: Multi

usually high-rise/vertical – Apartment/Flat/Condo

Structure

Larger building housing many people and services.

Campus

A collection of buildings and areas geared to supporting a group of people, typically in a unified purpose.

Steading

Farmsteading for crops or ranching (all attendant buildings, including workers, animals, vehicles, etc.)

Subdivision/Hamlet

subdivision, purposeful small community settlement, satellite/suburb

Village

Self contained (living and necessary services) settlement or subdivision of a larger locale

District

A defined section of a town, city or mega-city.
