Bastion of the Dawn (lighthouse)

Posted on October 30, 2025

Steel Realms

The Bastion of the Dawn is a “lighthouse” that is not for signaling ships, but illuminating the land side. It effectively illuminates the docks of Bloods Port in Redmark – where supplies for The Red March are managed day and night. In addition to normal light sources, it is a golden light on an obelisk that illuminates the port at night.

It completed construction of the Bastion of the Dawn in CY 7713, by the then-baron, Sir Mikael Graefstone (he would be elevated by the High King to Duke of Rhyl soon after). The Orrish had several times sabotaged the key port area. The “lighthouse” reflects rays of sunlight that the High Priestess of Aerna herself (at permanent cost to herself) caught from the rising sun. While not full sunlight, it reveals the Orrish under the Sun-Bane. It itself has been attacked and sabotage attempts made, but still stands. It is decorated with many golden tiles from the pottery made at Ten Stacks.

The Ducal Greathall of Rhyl

Posted on October 30, 2025

Steel Realms
The Ducal Greathall of Rhyl was once the throne room of the combined Kingdom of Rhyl. It is a massive hall with meeting alcoves off the sides, and a massive fireplace at the north end. The raised platform the throne once stood on is expanded and can accommodate the full complement of counts and barons if need be. Banners of noble houses and a massive map of the land hang on the walls. It was renovated when the fiefdom came under control of the High King, and again in CY _ when the current Ducal Bloodline took over. At that point, additional motifs from The Red March, influences from The Fallen East and Wyld Faith elements were added. Kaaldian styles and motifs were added when the “princess” __ married the Duke soon after he was appointed and the bloodline was cemented.

The Pledge Platform

The greathall has a raised dais referred to as the ‘Pledge Platform’ that “Truthlight“, the spear of the Duchess Henveria, first of her line and a member of the Rimeguard of Kaald brought with her in CY 7715 when she married into the new Ducal Lineage. When alliances are made, and new potential allies are first me, it is tradition for them and the Duke to grasp the Rimeguard Pledge-Weapon together and affirm the Pledge of Rhylan the Living that they must abide by above all things in regard to the safety and health of the duchy against the minions and agents of the Lich Lords. The weapon has dried and cracked though every effort has been made to preserve it. Two bands of silver were added to be grasped for the tradition to reduce the wear on it. The massive sapphire set in the band reinforcing the blade setting still gleams and sparkles when tested – filling the area with a faceted light show.
