Highpoint Garrison is a Ducal enclave at Amstred’s Wish that was built to stand watch over the approach to the South Reedland Stretch and against the aggression of the North Merchant Cities after the War of Rundleman’s Revenge in CY 9041. It is a walled Garrison, with a wooden 3 story tower atop the barracks with a pair of ballista for standing vigil and a Gatehouse facing east to the town of su_permalink id=”50103″]Amstred’s Wish[/su_permalink]. While not kept fully staffed, 10 Ducal Guards and 5 teamsters & a groomsman are kept here. The gate is typically shut.
It never stands empty, but it is mostly a supply depot and forward base against any incursions from the North Merchant Cities. It is used as a training facility for the Ducal Guards. With its history of the Ducal Guard holdouts that help turn the tide of Rundlemans War, it is a morale boost.
It has a stable with room for 10 horses, a barracks for 60 along with 20 light crossbows, supplies for a month (including its own well), an assembly hall and several officer and administrator rooms.
This is a stone building with a full wooden roof in the SW corner. It is off limits normally, and a safe haven for the enigmatic Rhylander Green Conjurists.
The conjurers will have worked to develop a chemical that they would conjure that would react to another chemical (including salt form the Saltshore) to make explosions launched from a ballista holding a ceramic jar. They only use it and store it at the garrison.
This place is a Safe Haven for members of the Rhylander Green Conjurists.

Slavery in the northern lands was a sentence of certain crimes in the The Grand Duchy of Rhyl, and has its roots in the Freelander culture. Among the Freelander culture, wereguild is common. They have few prisons, and where a person cannot pay the guilt price, they are made into slaves for a period of time. This is the worst fate. Heavy shackles, public shaming, and a constant reminder that they are not equals. A slave cannot be passed on generationally, though enslavement is typically made to a family and as long as the people they are property of are alive, they must serve their sentence. They cannot be sacrificed or gifted away. They must have basic shelter, clothing, and food provided, and are not allowed to own or keep any possessions unless allowed by their owners (it is not customary to allow much).

The blending of so many influences has created a decent level of egalitarianism in Rhyl. This is slightly improved from the overall level of su_permalink id=”5035″]Egalitarianism, Gender Roles & Relationships[/su_permalink] in the Steel Realms. Maintaining the ancient Lodge Tradition in Rhyl has gone a long way to keeping a level playing field, although more along the lines of “separate but equal” than true uniform equality.
Women are flat out afforded the same legal rights as men. This stems from when women fought alongside men on the front lines defending Rhyl from the Lich Lords. Although this is true, oftentimes the dominant human male operators will use tradition & male dominated war pursuits as a means of denigrating non-human and female to gain an advantage in social dealings. The proximity of so many elves and halflings, with the equality inherent in their own cultures, is a constant check on the human patriarchy that is aggressively pushed.

Gender Roles at North Gate Garrison are generally the same as any active war zone, not the typical reflected in Egalitarianism, Gender Roles & Relationships of the Steel Realms. Many women who serve here directly are priestesses and Magi, and considered warriors to the common soldier. However, the harsh realities of war mean the physicality of the male species dominates in North Gate Garrison. That is to say every request for service is answered with a place on the Autumn Wall where women cannot find a place among arms bearing mainline soldiers, there is more than enough place for critical logistics, medics, medical tents, and even planning for those with great academic accomplishment.
There is no gender bias in the various faiths represented at The Autumn Wall and the Rhylander Green Conjurists organize most of the Recovery Operations at North Gate Garrison to ensure evil auras, curses, taints and corruptions don’t enter the ranks of those serving or the lands behind the wall.
