Caitlin Steading is one of many Places, Locales and Features in the Riverdans of Tuflim.
Characters coming of age in/from this locale will shape their perspective to the primary experience of Cultural Experience of the Riverdans.
Arriving/First Glance: Ahead, dogs bark and a few field hands look up as you approach. Its obvious few come this way. The farmstead is really the remains of a hamlet or village, and several fields worked by a group of people you would estimate at about 40 – extended family and workers. Several buildings clustered around the well of old settlement are in good repair, clearly indicating the community hub.

There are many Places, Locales and Features of Tuflim that cover the notable territorial and geographical areas of the Riverdan. Most were built for much larger populations, though now settlements are small and have ruins or areas left uninhabited. There are ruins to explore, though most have been so many times before and little remains in the way of “plunder” or loot that is not dangerously precarious or buried.

Hawktail Hills Reach: The Hawktail Hills are part of a large uplifting that the Nanford River used to flow south of. They span multiple territories in the Riverdans that include Cerran’s Grant, Tuflim, and Glois, but are primarily located in Pelmon.

Parcel Services (Package or Letter) do exist as a service in the Steel Realms – though the availability and quality varies widely. Distances traveled follow the standard rates for Travel in the Steel Realms.
Passive Delivery: Using the World Watchers, a tiny parcel or letter can be sent without any commitments to delivery averaging about 5km/3 miles per day, through even rough or dangerous weather/environment/terrain). Payment will be marginal – perhaps no more than 1sc per 10 miles. An individual in this group will carry no more than small 10 parcels. As a rough guide, an individual will have a 15% chance for availability, and a 5% chance of happenstance preventing delivery (banditry/theft, sickness, side-tracked, etc.). Concierge services may also offer free or reduced options from institutional members traveling.
Active: There are many messenger and shipping type services by primary enterprise (for payment hauling/shipping company) or secondary (merchants and agents using common existing routes). Each territory has it own parcel and post services. They generally travel at the same speed or faster than the casual Travel in the Steel Realms.
Availability: Depends on locale, remoteness, and risk.
Rates/Costs: 1sc – 5c per .5kg/1 lb. per 10km/5 lbs. / Letters cost about 1sc for 5 miles, a fee of 5sc to cross fiefdom boundaries and another 5sc per 50 miles of travel for supplies. No parcels will be delivered to hostile or war zones.
> Concierge Services: Direct, exclusive = 4x rate
Happenstance: 1% (depends on local circumstances)
There are very few places that offer anything like a formal postal service. Most formal settlements will have a parcel office. Larger ones will have multiple – typically divided up into districts. Each additional service will have a fee associated with it.
Translations: Some parcel offices maintain a few short dictionaries and translation services. Almost all are either manned, staffed, or owned by literate individuals. World Watchers are known to offer their services to translate as well. Many will also speak and be literate in Mercat.
Writing: These places are not professional scribes – though typically know the ones in the area. They will scribe simple notes for a service fee (writing materials – ink, charcoal, paper, quills, pencil, etc.), no more than a half page usually.
Known Agencies: Many formal institutions maintain messenger services either by bird or other animal, or a runner service of its members.

Influence is the skillful use of Communication and Social faculties to achieve influence over a target to perform an Influence Activity using coercion, manipulation, inspiration, and reason. It represents a character’s general knowledge of cultural/social norms, values, and expected behaviors; Character lacking this may suffer penalties. Possessing specific Lores on culture and/or species may augment checks or at least offset any penalties. A good initial Reactions check can be very helpful with this. Target must be able to understand the attempt. All the normal factors of apply, as well as such things as Menacing Bearing.
Bribery: This may be overt (“here’s $50 to look the other way”) or covert (“who wouldn’t like to make a share of the cut for doing nothing”), but it is a promise of some reward that will benefit the target and can (if they are known to be receptive by reputation, direct knowledge or Insight) adjust the attempt to Influence them.
Frame of Reference: All Skills are bound by the character's Setting (physics), and the details that their culture/society's Science (gathered by Technology), direct experience, and/or collective Records are capable of revealing. A character may not be able to apply their full measure on a different world, with different species and tools. With a common frame of reference, multiple specific Lores can stack.
i20 Skills REPLACE d20 skill proficiency: Add the skill level + modifiers to the check ( Proficiency Bonus not used).
A single Result Check to assess Success or Failure AND quality which may be impacted by conditions which indicate a Lack of Capability (Unfamiliar, Unproficient, etc.). The GM can { } Narrate it, and players may request an appropriate impact when anything other than a basic outcome is indicated. Entities of the Grey
The modern age is heavily defined by the clash of faiths in the “Affray of Darkness and Light” in which the entities play a significant part.
