Type: Life Science (Ecology)

Botany: The character has studied natural plants and various processes around air, soil, and climate as it relates to them.

When a character wants to know the game statistics of a natural plant / natural flora.

They understand what may be poisonous or edible, what grows most efficiently, and what uses plants and crops can be put to. It requires a botany skill to safely identify and extract poisons from flora. It can provide a small set of materials that will improve healing in minor measures; curatives will vary by setting and availability. Note that without the ability to preserve the botanical creations, GM’s may rule that they will lose their potency or even become poisonous. Assume a character can have preserved their skill level in number of any particular item without such measures. This (or the cost to preserve) prevents a massive stockpiling of botanical creations in most cases. Assume simple creations will cost a simple cost portion, and advanced creations a major cost portion. Actions which call for a botanical component at a cost portion can be manufactured for half cost (on a successful check). A successful check indicates (assuming availability) the ingredient can be found for cooking to increase the sustenance value of a meal by 1 for Recovery purposes.

Frame of Reference: All Skills are bound by the character's Setting (physics), and the details that their culture/society's Science (gathered by Technology), direct experience, and/or collective Records are capable of revealing. A character may not be able to apply their full measure on a different world, with different species and tools. With a common frame of reference, multiple specific Lores can stack.

Elements of this may feed into or be leveraged by: Alchemy, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. It is usually practiced with a kit of typical equipment in a lab of some sort (if available). A character may gain a Toolkits and Work Stations by purchasing them in-game (depending on availability) or at the time of Inception using Assets.

Biology is a formal field of study and a trade; Its practice produces items.
This could also be represented simplistically as a Lore.

( BIOLOGY) Biology is an advanced Life Science of the study of living organisms which picks up where Botany and Zoology leave off. Cellular behavior and ecology, cell evolution, genetics, and biochemistry are all informed by the Biology skill. It is the microcosm of the botanical and zoological macrocosm. Biology allows for research and treatment of specific organ or bodily processes, the practice of advanced medicine, genetics/eugenics, and the ability to study and identify any living organisms to learn of its functions and processes. Biology, along with engineering, forms the core of installing and creating (Physics needed) cybernetic enhancements – basic materials, processes, tools and procurement.

Astrology

Posted on July 26, 2022 in D20 iCore Skill

[ Feature Impact ] > Positive

Astrology is a real force in the iVerse (as opposed to the pseudoscience it is perceived as in modern times). It is a divinatory/revelatory practice that can reveal some small Sign or Oracles denoting either positive or negative outcome under specific circumstances. It is usually practiced as a Ritual.

Though most practitioners of who call themselves astrologers are charlatans preying upon the weak, the true cosmological Pattern delvers seek to reveal Portents by mystic sight and travel. They are trained to recognize markers and weaves within The Pattern in order to reveal the significance and probability of future events. These can seek out auspicious moments (favorable to them or least favorable to opponents) to attempt tasks, pathways to truth and knowledge, and even insights into journey-taking. The act of Astrological Delving catalyzes the weave around the target – making the likelihood of their vision nearly certain (though details leading to and away from the vision are open) – it would take a strong Essence to impose a change to The Pattern to change the delving outcome. A delving can be done on any moment which is greater than an hour in the future. The delver loses 1 essence until the moment has passed or is no longer relevant, and makes a fated skill check. A Reveal check will reveal randomly what the portents will be. A Seeking check attempts to find the best moment: full = A Favorable Encounter (the entire moment); major = A Favorable Instant (the initial round of the moment); average = A Rancorous Instant (the initial round of the moment); simple = A Rancorous Encounter (the entire moment); failure – unclear, no further checks.
