Nightmares of Asheroon

Steel Realms
Nightmares of Asheroon

Heat was forge like – the city is aflame
Before dawn painted the sky the earth becomes parched and dusty
Wasteland known as Sunken lands forms before your eyes
Familiar weight of your possessions across your back as you flee the remains of the city
Hardy scrub gave way to black sand that seemed to swallow light
Almost monolithic – Rocks jutting up like broken teeth
Twisted by ancient agony
Profound silence descends
wind moans with disturbing humanity
Sun is diseased, pale
Green flowing river lined with birch and pines – all others see desolation > wind playing tricks on your mind!?
Women – calling to you.
The land remembers water and it thirsts! Phantoms from a different reality of what once was.
Acheronian sorcery had weakened the world’s foundations
Assault on sanity
Hear temple bells
Smell roasting meat turned to grave stentch
Skeleton armies marching

Sunken Lands of Asheroon (Rhyl)

Posted on October 14, 2025

Steel Realms

When Arsheroon was sacked the final time, and the Tower of the Com-Gatta fell, it turned the agricultural land to dust for 1km in every direction. Over time, the land sunk, expanding the Plane of Dust into the Sunken Lands of Asheroon. These Sunken Lands extend roughly 2km out from the ruins of the city itself.

Bloodsport (Fighting Pits; Rhyl)

Posted on October 14, 2025

Steel Realms

A play on the port of “Bloods Port” it is in, these are nominally illicit fighting Pits, but tolerated because the right bribes are paid. IT is a painful wound to the followers of Aerna who constantly try and infiltrate it to talk combatants out of fighting and shut it down. Veterans returning from their time in North Gate Garrison often need to bleed off steam or have spent all their money and need money for passage out.

NEVER is anyone without a Redgate Mark allowed to fight – taking bodies away from their potential service in North Gate Garrison is a high crime.

At this point, there is a place on the NE edge of the port area that police go in the morning to collect Aerna’s followers who were rounded up and removed to reduce disturbances. They are no longer treated harshly as they were in the beginning – with the Sacrarium of the Justicar not far away, the early history of the pits were a constant shutting down and arrests. Then the rapes and killing of Aerna’s followers stopped, and now there is just a collection point. Those who run the pits have had to hire non-violent types to handle her followers.

It is rumored that some of the Necromancers from the Order of ___ tend the wounded here as well as handle some of the body removal in order to study them to improve their ‘arts’.

Bloods Port

Posted on October 14, 2025

Steel Realms
Bloods Port is the name of the port that services the city of RedMark. It was originally named “”, but over time, due to the nature of the endless supply of “meat for the grind” in North Gate Garrison, it took on its current name. It is a bustling port, well-lit (especially since the creation of Bastion of Light), that never stops. It is busy at all hours, though slows after dark. Aside from KArolak and Gwinnish built ports, it is the busiest port in all the realms.

Quality items from the Inderood Bronzeworks in the City of Fortun are made for ships built and repaired on the Rhylian ports on Lake Caolite.

Bronzed-Edge Tableland

Posted on October 14, 2025

Steel Realms

The Bronzed-Edge Tableland is a MASSIVE tableland feature that splits much of the Grand Duchy of Rhyl into east and west, with the Forest of Rhyl to its west. It runs 400km north-south and is, at its widest point, about 180km. Its is one of several defining features of Rhyl. Its is a plateau that rises up no more than 200 feet. The plateau is higher at its southern end. It is not quite flat but the slope is very gentle. Nobody really knows what happened to cause such a strange shearing – it is as if a god cut a mountain range with a cosmic sword. It has little variance.

Although now the whole top of the plateau is considered The Red March, a lot of mines and small settlements were grandfathered in along the edges to belong to the fiefdoms around them.

Respite of Warriors: There are shell towns on the plateau just for those fighting at North Gate Garrison on leave. These are a facade of a town, but cater to blowing off steam – sex, booze, gambling, gaming, etc. Clallums Cross is for Umbakians only.

Resources: There are a lot of iron and tin deposits that give it its signature orange-rust color. The rocks are hard mantle rocks of yellow hue. Currently, there are a few iron and tin mines being worked by traders – mostly from Kyben and Red Mark. In addition to metals, there is a green slate that grows in the area the Ennecio Hills rise from and a few mines pull it for decorative and building tiles. A series of small aggregate quarries on the Bronzed-Edge Tableland are operated by the Kuernsi Umbakian family out of Clallums Cross.

The Ducateon long ago mined the surface of it for iron and magnesium, clear-cutting the sparse forest that grew on top of it. There was few settlements at that time in the area of what would become Rhyl. The white dragon of Rhyl ruled the area then, and the Ducateon made an alliance with it, to supply its servants with better quality iron implements over the bronze they were using for a thousand years before the coming of the Blood of Saemon.
