Presence returned or exists only within the Aether. The unmanifested is the Absolute, the pure and formless ground of being from which creation and manifestation arise. As such, the unmanifested is free from change, the unmoved mover. It also, necessarily, cannot be explained or comprehended in terms of any manifest reality.

The unique property of Quintessence of an Essence means it can be merged with that of another in The Pattern. Usually, one Presence is subsumed by the merger, and it imprints its powers, outlook, tenets, and credo upon the other. They cannot have conflicting Codes of Conduct without some collision of wills.

Each Aptitude has an aegis only the most powerful can invoke. For example, the most powerful of Occultist Aegis can be weaponized as the dreaded Arcane Occultist. Using Aegis requires 4 measures (the maximum) in the related aptitude. Aegis is reflected in a character’s Aura.

Most entities with Essence manifest their Presence in a single way. Their nature is tied to this mode of existence – it may be native to them, or they may have transformed through some condition to a new one. Higher order beings may manifest in multiple ways. An entity may also take on the properties of a different type of Presence than their own through a power or feature that leverages Paradox. Without the shroud of Paradox, there is nothing to prevent them from being pulled apart into the multiple non-native manifestations.
Essential Presence: Manifests as an presence which typically comes about through predictable and expected organic consequences and is usually fully material. Its power may be eternal; it gains and fades as a result of its own volition generally.
