Hearth of the Frozen Fire

Posted on December 27, 2023 in Steel-Realms

Steel Realms

The Hearth of the Frozen Fire is a massive sacred hearth in the great hall of castle which is the home of the King of Stillness in the capital of Juniper, in the far, far north. It burns with a cold blue fire. It is the anchor to the land, to the Blue Wall, that gives feelings and a semblance of life to Theodrose and his Crystal Rider retainers.

The Hearth of the Frozen Fire is known to serve as a channeling point for the power of the Blue Wall away from its environs itself. It helps to keep the once murderous forces of Theodrose the Spectre Lord, king of Kalascor in the north, bound to the people and land he now serves, and to warn him when the power of the Fangedfrost shifts its normal course.

It is not common knowledge, but it allows communication between the Thedrose and the priests of the elemental goddesses, and the Order of Davros.

All of the Crystal Riders and Theodrose of the north are bound to this hearth. When they die, 33 years later their spirit will emerge from the ever-burning hearth of Merkaine in Castle Vulgarate.

Florent’s Array

Posted on November 18, 2023 in Steel-Realms

Steel Realms
Florent’s Array is named after the first eldest prince of Umbak, Florent Teilhard (of the Teilhard Family). He became the second king of Umbak, and not only by virtue of his name but his effort to create this defense network. The ‘array’ named after him is a set of crafted poles, imbued with Virtue and Vigilance (‘Hearth Magik‘). They were to serve as a set of remote viewing points for the priests of Ikribu. They were sparse at first, and the alloying and process of their making is expensive. Over thousands of years though, there is a network that covers most areas of the borders of their country. Many have had to be replaced over time from natural disaster damage and destruction by inimical entities. They are sensitive to presences which exhibit extreme Chaos. They were the first major project of the Automata Brigade of Virtue and Reason.

Within Umbak, the senior members of the Order of the Silver Talents are instructed into using the devices of Florent’s Array to send and receive messages.

Books, Scroll, and Maps (and related materials)

Posted on September 28, 2023 in Steel-Realms

Steel Realms

Knowledge is a form of power – Books, Scroll, and Maps (and related materials) manifest this. It is generally hoarded in many private collections (such as the “Great Libraries“). There are exceptions to this – such as the Brayfhayl cultural library in The Saelish, the Libraries of Port Towne, the Thane Libraries.

In order to read inscribed items, the reader must be literate in the language they are written in.

Mystic Inscriptions: “Spell Books” generally follow the rules of Occult Codex or Folio. Some, like Blood Scrolls, are not intended for the living and have potential consequences if read.

Crafter’s Mark: The use of an item made by a famous and recognized crafter (or their guild/trade/school) may also be the equivalent of a Prestige Marker.
