Altair Castle once stood proud at the south side of Altair Pass – the best way through the north Altain Mountains to South Cut and onto the Aaldian Plateau. Now the castle lies in ruins, brought down by the blade of legend Stone Cutter.
The pass and lands of the barony are a frozen wasteland of roaming spirits, broken bones and everyone that once lived is encased in hoar frost. Though the ancient fallen barony is on the south side, its frozen covering makes all consider it part of the Hinterlands rather than the Heartlands. It is cursed, and the very ground swallows the undead, and the biting cold eventually killing anything that lives. Only the spirits of the restless dead wander its confines.
Somewhere in the collapsed pass is the Altairian Mine – The namesake of the region and its primary income source.

(Pop. 3000) Broken Spear Ford is the ancient capital of the fief of the Riverdan of Horpan in the Riverdans, though it now mostly lies in disrepair.
The current family squeezes the populace for all they can, and has made the old steading at Bluewhal into a fortified town. There is still a town hall and a large populace, as all the trade routes still come through this town.
White River Dairy is run by the Quirellmyn family – the rulers of Horpan.

There are many Places, Locales and Features of Horpan cover the notable territorial and geographical areas of the Riverdan. Most were built for much larger populations, though now settlements are small and have ruins or areas left uninhabited. There are ruins to explore, though most have been so many times before and little remains in the way of “plunder” or loot that is not dangerously precarious or buried.
Characters coming of age in/from this locale will shape their perspective to the primary experience of Cultural Experience of the Riverdans.

Arriving/First Glance: You see a small rise in the distance at the base of the Spiremount Hills, upon which must be the aptly named Spiremount Manor proper. It is surrounded by fields and farmsteads on the west side of the old dry bed of the Nanford, and orchards on the east side. What was once a town is at the base of the rise, about 30 feet higher than the old river level; It is now no more than half populated (or less), down to about 2000 people. There is a road, currently used, going north out of the town on the east side of what used to be the Nanford River’s course. You can see where a road that would be traveling N-NW (if it were used) comes out from the town and just becomes a trail at best. Another road goes south into the Culaugh Spiney (growing in the old Nanford’s course), flanked by a crumbling gatehouse.
