Glassteel

Steel Realms Logo
Glassteel is mined and made in the Mines of Alag of the Merchant Cities of the South. It is known to only be mined in that one place, though there are rumors that there are other sources. Create see-through bracers, shields and helms. The outside is polished like a mirror, reflects images and light. All sizes are heavy versions of shields.

Made to Order: All items are made to order. There is a waiting list for them, most of the time it is years unless a ransom is paid. Wearable items are all fitted. Small items can be encased (but are not see-through), treating them as a minor Glassteel Glaze. This is mostly for aesthetic reasons, not to make an item more resilient.

One-Way Wear: The exterior gets marred over time. It generally cannot be repaired except in the deepest mines of Ducateon smiths.

No Perception Penalty with helms.

  • Glazed: +2 Resilience (Minor Glaze for +1 Resilience) and the item is semi-translucent. These extra Resilience cannot be repaired. The armaments do show damage to them better, making for faster and slightly cheaper repair. Their novelty remains as well, doubling their price even after the extra resilience is gone.

Chronicle/Facts of Material

Item Powers (common and Attuned) can be found under Common Knowledge tab.

Knowledge is broken down by ease of discovery/availability & Meticulous Record Keeping may improve usability; Any attempt to know more than what's Pervasive will require a reference, source, knowledge, check, or access to someone who can get or provide either of these. Specific Lores may increase the chance of knowing specific elements.

Trivial Outcome / Very Easy Difficulty & Pervasive Knowledge

Information Sources: Mundane Reference | Associated Phenomenology Only | Specific Lore

For those native to or long-dwelling in the region, ALL Common Knowledge may be Pervasive.

Rumors About the Locale
  1. The mines where it is extracted are poisonous.
  2. In its raw form, it burns the skin.
  3. There was another mine in the Dark Lands.

Simple Outcome / Easy Difficulty & Common Knowledge

For those native to or long-dwelling in the region, ALL Common Knowledge may be Pervasive.

Scarce Knowledge / Hard Difficulty

There was another mine source in the Fallen East. The Orrish have tried to mine it, but have not possessed the tools to do so for a long time.

Rare Knowledge / Very Hard Difficulty

Some weapons and armor trapped in the Frost-Melded Icescapes of the grand Duchy of Rhyl in the north heartlands have been found to have the Glassteel ‘Glazed’ effect upon them. Scholars and treasure seekers watch and wait for these items to be cleared of frost as the icescape melts.

The Mines of álag

The Mines of Alag in the Merchant Cities of the South is the product of a deep fault line of dolomite that the Ducateon followed to an underground aquifer. It is extremely hazardous to mine, doing permanent eye and lung damage which is why those who work it and the pressure. Workers cannot work for long and because of this the prices are so high. Some of the most prized armaments and items are made of this. There was a constant rotation of miners and crafters as the pressures, both physical and mental effects of going that deep take its toll. The facilities are for the production of Glassteel.

Glassteel Factory

The Glassteel Mine

Ducateon prefer natural crystals, the resonance is better for them and what they need it for. Dwarves prefer tempered glass created at extreme high pressures in stone presses and caverns deep in the earth. There is one glass factory in the territory ruled by Pomata, on the edge of the Stormfront Mountains, where Dwarven crafters use Ducateon Holt tunnels to go deep deep in the earth where the pressure is significantly greater. This place is referred to as the mines of álag. Other humanoids, even Nurth and Orrish, cannot survive in these pressures and depths.
