The Elven Weald of Archaezeon (ar-kay-zeon) was a rare Elven Weald in a remote mountain gorge in the Altain Mountain Range with little forest or meadows. A massive underground river spilled out in a basin on its edge – this eventually flowed into the Blood River. Irrigation was carved and the meadows grew food. The dwellings were all carved into cliffs and natural caverns they found.
When Altair fell, their valley was flooded and stone pillars and doors smashed. The exact location lies buried still – though many an adventuring band has tried.

They were a folk of grey eyes and grey and earth colored skin that had been there for thousands of years, growing at a slow pace.
After the Weald fell, no young or adolescents were ever found by anyone who sought out the remains of the weald. It is believed they were all turned into undead soldiers of the Lich Lords or buried in a cavern to prevent it.
The elves here dwelt in peace for thousands of years, away from the rest of the world on purpose (though what that purpose was, was never discerned).
The Rock Elves had a good relationship with the dwarves later, after the Fall of the East and migration to the area began in earnest. The dwarves were believed to have carved the Rinal Valley‘s Doorstep defensive works.
One of the last societies openly venerating The Rimbus.
The Ducateon and Rock Elves did not get along – there is a record of several encounters as the Ducateon sensed rare gems in their territory. They were rebuffed each time.
These folk were said to be allied to the mythical and hidden Winter Elves.

The History of Altair Pass and the history of the Grand Barony of Altair is intertwined. the barony had a rich and important history until its fall – chronicled in the Fall of the Grand Barony of Altair.
The pass and lands of the barony are a frozen wasteland of roaming spirits, broken bones and everyone that once lived is encased in random patches of hoarfrost. Though the ancient fallen barony is on the south side, its frozen covering makes all consider it part of the Hinterlands rather than the Heartlands.
It is cursed, and the very ground now swallows even the undead, and the biting cold eventually killing anything that lives. Only the spirits of the restless dead wander its confines.

Altair Pass was a crossroads of the north at one point. It provided east-weast access in the Northern Heartlands AND a winding pass through the mountains into the Northern Hinterlands that was open through most of the year. Altair Castle once stood proud at the south side of Altair Pass – the best and least expensive way through the north Altain Mountains to South Cut and onto the Aaldian Plateau when it was open. The area fell into disrepair when the Grand Barony of Altair fell in CY 6909.
The history of this place is chronicled in The History of the Grand Barony of Altair and Altair Pass.
The Altain Corridor: Kroith Passage was once the gateway between North Pines and the Grand Duchy of Rhyl and the Altair Pass to the west that granted access to the western Freelands of the North of the Northern Heartlands.
Balient’s Breach was more dangerous and expensive than Altair Pass, but was an alternative until the Grand Barony fell and the pass became a wasteland and impossible due to the evil spirits that refused to rest – hostile to Lich Lord minion and the living alike. Shoulder Blades Pass in North Pines is an alternative passage for a select few.Somewhere in the ruins around the Altair Pass is the Altairian Mine – The namesake of the region and its primary income source at one time.
