Researcher: When you attempt to learn or recall a piece of lore, if you do not know that information, you often know where and from whom you can obtain it. Usually, this information comes from a library, scriptorium, university, or a sage or other learned person or creature. Your DM might rule that the knowledge you seek is secreted away in an almost inaccessible place, or that it simply cannot be found. Unearthing the deepest secrets of the multiverse can require an adventure or even a whole campaign.

Background: Sage (Scribe)
Caliburn was the 3rd son of a wealthy merchant in the city of Klyben, in the The Grand Duchy of Rhyl. When he was 10, he apprenticed to the notable wizard Bilken, who had retired in the capital city of Rhylan. There he learned his craft of wizardry. His teacher schooled him on the proper functions of a sage to make money writing letters and copying manuscripts and scrolls; Though instead of teaching him multiple languages, he spent many nights querying him with odd puzzles and queries about dioramas and art – honing his powers of investigation. His progress was steady though uneventful. Just completing his apprenticeship, his master died in his sleep (well, with two whores) after working months to perfect an elixir of stamina. The whores took everything of obvious value, leaving only a few musty scrolls of his master – one of them was a writ of introduction and paid receipt for a Quizman’s Solution-Maker’s Bundle. Returning to his family embarrassed but better off, he was transferred to duty in the Ducal prison – Northern Exposure – A North Revealed campaign story arc..
