Merkaine’s Shrine of Shieldfire (Rhyl)

Steel Realms
Merkaine’s Shrine of Shieldfire in the City of Thunderfall

This place has a standard Shrine for The Fire Within sect of Merkaine in her role as burner of the undead and defender of life.

No undead or ghosts have been able to operate in the city because of his presence. The Lich Lords even attempted to throw a freezing hoarwind from the north being ridden by spectres and it completely dispersed the spectres, they were torn apart in cold screams that sometimes seem to echo in the highest tops of the Enecio Peaks.

Lamasoil Lamp Production: Merkaine’s Shrine of Shieldfire is one of the sources of the Lamasoil Lamps. Nearby are the Tar Pit of Enecio Peaks – the loam brick source for the lamps.

Narduar Holt

Posted on June 27, 2024

Steel Realms
Narduar Holt is a remote and forbidding place. The Ducateon survive just fine in the cold clime of the north, as the majority of their settlement is underground. Inhospitable to the Orrish, shielded by temperature from other races, protected by allies from the undead, with little to no competition from allies… this Holt has thrived. Originally a standard holt, it has grown to a metropolis of 90,000 – one of the largest of Ducateon Settlements of the Steel Realms. Its forges and mining bring coal, metals, and gemstones from the earth they trade with. Their stress is low, and the Outholt bustles – though mostly only in the summer in the north.

From the Holt comes the Ducateon Way Stones, these illuminate many areas in the upper reaches of their Holt for visitors – it is said to be an awe inspiring vision from the edge of the Claw Bottom Cliffs that overlook it, an entrance from the Outholt above ground. The Ducateon Way Stones are raw Tunnelite, and only fluoresce and are tenebrescent under UV light – these are mostly used in the Narduar Holt of the Ducateon in the north.

Iron Bottom Hunters (naval boat of Umbak)

Posted on April 18, 2024 in Steel-Realms

Steel Realms

The Iron Bottom Hunters are a progressively more armored hull naval ship of Umbak. It is a product of the Automata Brigade of Virtue and Reason. These were made to hunt war ships in ancient times. They were large and heavy, not useful for anything except war. They were meant to survive a battering ram strike or the rocks off a coast. They almost never sank, and when they did it was rapid, dooming most of the crew. They are prohibitively expensive to build and have assistance propelling them from mystical means. They are few in number now, being expensive to maintain.

The first made, the “Silver Eventide”, has the distinction of slaying the crew of The Greentooth at the end of the Dread of Vesicant.

Florent’s Array

Posted on November 18, 2023 in Steel-Realms

Steel Realms
Florent’s Array is named after the first eldest prince of Umbak, Florent Teilhard (of the Teilhard Family). He became the second king of Umbak, and not only by virtue of his name but his effort to create this defense network. The ‘array’ named after him is a set of crafted poles, imbued with Virtue and Vigilance (‘Hearth Magik‘). They were to serve as a set of remote viewing points for the priests of Ikribu. They were sparse at first, and the alloying and process of their making is expensive. Over thousands of years though, there is a network that covers most areas of the borders of their country. Many have had to be replaced over time from natural disaster damage and destruction by inimical entities. They are sensitive to presences which exhibit extreme Chaos. They were the first major project of the Automata Brigade of Virtue and Reason.

Within Umbak, the senior members of the Order of the Silver Talents are instructed into using the devices of Florent’s Array to send and receive messages.
