Steel Realms

A knightly order of the Steel Realms pledged to Whelm. They safeguard the bridge over which all traffic flows from the borderlands north.

It is known that The Clearvor (Desert Giants) built the Southgate Span bridge over the Chasmlands at Southgate Garrison. The Order of the Fearless Spanners works with the mason and engineers of Southgate and the Bridgemen of Southgate to make sure it in good repair and protected from those seeking its destruction.

Order of the Red Heart

Posted on June 16, 2021 in Steel-Realms

Steel Realms

The Order of the Red Hart is a knightly order of the Steel Realms based in Ados and Fhayl and are a bulwark in the defense of the central heartlands in the east. The order preaches physical and martial discipline, and to learn many abilities in these areas in order to create a body and mind that can adapt to all situations. It is the most populous order of knights and less oriented towards any faith or faith goals; the upper echelons of power are in fact held strictly by knights who hold the High King’s law above all other authorities. Many of the famous Black Gorgons – the High King’s personal order and bodyguards – rose to prominence in the Order of the Red Heart. Their charter is, along with serving the High King’s Law, to provide a coordinated intelligence against Orrish and other enemies of all the races. The Red Heart is also charged with ensuring legal counsel and justice for the smallfolk – to champion those innocents who cannot do so themselves; to this end they have a non-fighting branch (though all can to some degree) that works with the World Watchers in the Central Heartlands of the realm. This order is open to any race, though humans dominate 99%.

Home of the Order: The Crulbrake Commandery in the Slatterly Valley which overlooks a passage between Barony of Morguile and The Grey Woods is the home of the order. The entire valley, including the road running past its mouth south into The Grey Woods, is under their protection.

There, you will also find the Verlain Chapel – a holy place of purification devoted to the Green Church. Though not all members are of the faith, the service of the order and the king is bound to the lands of the king and this symbolizes their connection to that. This is where they draw their Water of the Living (holy water) from for its members.

Their symbol is a red heart, and arm grasping from left (top) and bottom (right) over 2 crossed spears with banners.

Motto: "May your heart always bleed true." – This is in reference to fighting and bleeding for a true and noble cause.

World Watchers and Laws of the Land

Posted on February 17, 2021 in Steel-Realms

Steel Realms

The Law of the High King exist and generally governs all interactions with institutions and people; This is often adjudicated by members of the World Watchers. Those who follows the ways of the World Watchers can often achieve better rates than the standard Travel in the Steel Realms because of their well traveled and know primary and secondary roads. Even bandits, if they know the traveler is a World Watcher, will let a group pass; Incriminating one is a crime punishable by jail and servitude. Their job is to bring information back to High King. One of their original members was the wizard named Gaoliath of the Long-Step.

The modern age is heavily defined by the clash of faiths in the Affray of Darkness and Light” in which it seeks influence to restore a more natural order and counter the destructive forces of evil. World Watchers take the Oath of the Day Watch and seek to create safe pathways in which knowledge and travel flow. Those taking the Sworn Oath of High King’s Service also facilitate the resolution of conflict and advancement of progress.

The World Watchers are always on the lookout for more blighted places to engage the Reclamation of the Wyld, especially after The Sundering.

Conflict Resolution: Any member of the World Watchers can officiate to legitimize both grievance and outcome/penalty. The character must demonstrate knowledge of Law of the High King and local laws through their lore and/or vouchsafed by local connections. Before entering into any resolution, all parties must agree to abide by the decision; Appeal to a local Peerage noble is the only one available. The outcome must have its reason declared (and preferably documented and lodged with a scribe or office) with an explanation after the pronouncement. If the laws and precedents cannot be invoked in such a way, the decision is declared void. The aggrieved parties are allowed a single challenge to any point if they can provide an alternate – in which case, new points and arguments can be made.

  • Where any dueling is officially called out and legal, they may officiate.

Presence

There are permanent quarters for the World Watchers in Pacification Garrisons, and full barracks for them at Northgate Garrison and Southgate Garrison, and the Great Libraries.

Legion of the Trident (Gwinn)

Posted on November 3, 2017 in Steel-Realms

Steel Realms

The Legion of the Trident isa knightly order of the Steel Realms. Its named reflecting its symbol, the trident… but such a weapon is not used by the knights of the order. The trident represents the three tines of Faithfulness (to goddess; Elancil), Lawfulness (to emperor), and Dedication (to the order) – in short, loyalty above all else. The order is one that supports the acquisition and use of the mystical arts, combined with the process of the martial. This group was once confused with the Order of the Trident, before they were renamed Order of the Tri-Light and its power usurped by the Lightbringers from within.

Their symbol is an upright exaggerated blue trident on a black background with a white stripe at its base. The white symbolizes sea foam, the blue the sea, three for the pillars of the legion and black for the depths of the ocean.
