Protectorate of the High King in Oerdney
Posted on June 5, 2026 in Steel-Realms
Arlaign’s Charter (The ‘Law of the High King’) defines a “Protectorate” under protection of the High King of Oerdney. All should have a keep (based on picket keep model?) that are remote duty stations for the soldiers of the High King. There is a corp of runners and bureaucrats, but not a herald here. Lower level functionaries are just expected to keep the peace and status quo. No full heralds are needed, or heralds of the High King are sent here to gain experience when they are just starting out. Only a few dozen soldiers serve in these, leaving them mostly empty. The threat of the notice of the High King is usually enough. All of them have a call stone for the black gorgons.
A steward is typically given the hereditary title of running the fortress. Locals are expected to provide livestock and supplies to the small token force as long as the peace is kept.
In Loamwold, it is empty, and umbak and it constantly fight and Dunstrand if more an ally than the far away High King.
