Restless Spirits of Helca

Steel Realms

Because of the advent of the Lich Lords of the North and the supposed demise of the death god/entity of Djerduth they stole their powers from, there is a heavy presence of restless spirits on Helca, especially the continent of Ustermaya . Though the souls and Essence may pass on to the afterlife, many leave a spiritus type imprint that is restless and hostile to the living. Those dying of natural causes are given burial Ritualrituals to prevent this, but those that cannot afford it often make yearly offerings (minor food tidbit, flower, trinket, etc.) to keep the spirits of their loved ones at peace. Or, someone with Conviction among the visitors to the grave will say a benediction using Connexion to invoke the power of their god to keep them at peace when they visit.

Common Restless Spirits

Lantern Spirits: These are typically the restless spirits of ancient Sea-King or Gwinnish folk. They look like a swaying lantern of dim yellow light. On land or sea they seem to beckon to a safe place, a dry rise or safe harbor. But it is a trap. They will charm those they attack to be unmoving in for others to get Advantage or so that they drown; they may also attack with a minor electrical arc up to 5m. They may only attack 1/Short Rest.

Lightwalkers: Spirits of Umbakians and those who follow the Light Bringers. They are bright white or golden yellow and make a buzzing sound when they “flare” to attack. They will only attack once each time the site of remains or grave are disturbed.

Will-o-Wisp: {See traditional Will-o-the-wisp} These especially evil and vengeful spirits that are free roaming, though do not venture far from the site of their death.
