Understanding Cryptography means the character is adept at pattern recognition, algorithm design, and the common methods to encrypt information and transport it. Competent characters have a chance to passively spot an attempt at encoding information by simply reading/viewing what may appear to be a normal text. This skill may also provide minor assistance in games which have full strategies such as Go and chess.
Frame of Reference: All Skills are bound by the character's Setting (physics), and the details that their culture/society's Science (gathered by Technology), direct experience, and/or collective Records are capable of revealing. A character may not be able to apply their full measure on a different world, with different species and tools.
The same function may be accomplished using Artificial Intelligence, mechanical means or computerized logic processing.
i20 Skills REPLACE d20 skill proficiency ( Proficiency Bonus) - Character Points are Rewarded by the GM to buy traits and Skills (adding to the Result Check).
i20™ Making Checks: In going with the "Rule of Averages", only a single Result Check is made to determine Success or Failure and degree/quality of either of an Activity. Note that checks made without proficiency can only apply a Attribute bonus no greater than the character's Proficiency Bonus.
