The Schan-Karr of the Elven Wealds (‘shahn-car’) is a somewhat unique element that is part of most Elven Wealds of the Steel Realms. The Schan-Karr is a place either at the edge of or just outside of the boundary of a Weald proper. The place is called the “faerie scorn”, sometimes even seen as a ‘red-light district’ of a Weald. It is filled with drifting mists. The Weald members acknowledge its presence, but it is a place to purge and keep separate corrupting and de-stabilizing influences. In most Wealds, this place is fairly tame and maintains the element of the fantastical and strange of a Weald.

  • Bent Flower: The more alien and strange of the Schan-Karr of the Elven Wealds have a “Bent Flower” of the Weald; This is a strange flower, mushroom, or other similar plant that is unique to the Weald that has a powerful effect. It is usually both positive AND negative and grows in the heart of the Schan-Karr.

Here, trysts are made, the mists of the schan-karr cause memories to become hazy. Some even come to forget, leaving their memories behind. Strange beasts and plants find a place of safety, perhaps once pets or experiments of the less scrupulous of the Weald community. The anger, scorn, despair, and perverse thoughts and memories of those bonded with the Weald can be experienced… for a price.

In a few places, the schan-karr is a place of alieness and fear. Unscrupulous faerie sell forgetfulness, and sell what they call dreams – violent and disturbing memories purged from their kin. Dangerous organic drugs, bestiality & other bizarre gratifications, dream-drugs, and illicit goods and services with a faerie mystique can all be available in these places at their worst.

Alien Negativity

It is like a bleed off value for the Weald’s negativity. That also includes the anima font that anchors the Soul Well of the Weald.

Sometimes this purging or bleeding off can manifest strange creatures – referred to as ‘mist walkers’; Most of the time they vanish if wispy mist, but on a few rare occasions the Dream wyld boundary gets thin enough for them to take real form. These Slyly are dangerous in the long term usually and are either hunted down or dispelled or cast back to the Dream Wyld.
