The Elven Lake Lamps are expensive, but effective bio-luminescence; It is bright and from the heart of the Elven Wealds of the Steel Realms. These are fine crystalline lamps, with the Water of the Heartshine and a luminescent moss that reacts to it. The light they give off has a strange flicker-like effect from the wavelength, and is usually focussed directionally using mirrors or diffused with crystals.
The elven craftsmen mostly make them for elven families, allies, and small business in each Weald is to make them for nearby nobility as symbols of alliance. These are typically tuned to the blood of few individuals – a mini-Weald by concept. These lamps made in the Weald typically function only in the Weald.
The few made for diplomats, riders, soldiers and “adventurers” of elven stock require new water of Heartshine each year to keep their light strong.
Celebration of the Lake Light: Every 100 years, for a full day cycle, the elves of each Weald celebrate their home’s survival. This is only done on a large scale for the Wealds that are safe and secure in their borders – otherwise it is kept hidden. In this celebration, they float hundreds of small Lake Lamps on a pond near the center of the Weald and sing the names of their ancestors from the Soul Well. Above the Weald, especially at night, is a light show like no other. Reflecting off the crystals and the water the light glitters and scintillates and can be seen for a hundred miles all around. The elves do not advertise it, it is just an event for their community. That said, outsiders keep track in a few places and entire ‘festivals’ outside of the elven community are made around this, and enterprising folk make small fortunes in certain places.
