North Revealed Shared Experiences / Group Loyalty

Steel Realms

CHRONICLE > The North Revealed is a Living World campaign set in The Northern Hearthlands of the [Fantasy] Steel Realms. The Heartland Spark has re-shaped the realm and new opportunity beckons the brave and bold to the north. Brought together by circumstance, bound by camaraderie, finding fortune in the conflict of the northlands…

North Revealed Shared Experiences is a set of shared experiences that attempts to create a more unified group in terms of trust, loyalty, and cohesion to make it more effective. Asil and the group developed a simple bond, based on the group Asil traveled with before – they were strong as a group, and when they fell apart with individual divided loyalties, they failed. This is all he would say.

‘The Foundlings’ refers to the original PCs brought out of the Dunstrand Rising campaign setting into the north setting of the new campaign by the PC Asil.

THE FOUNDLINGS SWORN WORD OF LOYALTY: I swear upon my life that we are all of one mind and will. Together we are strong and survive, the enemies before us must face us all instead of any of us individually.

  1. A cause for one of us, is a cause for all of us.
  2. We never embark upon an endeavor seeking power or influence without consulting everyone.
  3. The spoils of our endeavors go to provide for all; anything left over will be agreed upon by the group.
  4. We never leave anyone behind.
Building Initial Group Loyalty: GM Perspective

Initially, there was a tighter bond within the group, using some campaign ideas sourced in GM vision. As characters developed, it was obvious that a tightly knit group, bound by loyalty to each other or a cause, was not part of the background and build up. Originally there was going to be a deeply manifested faith bond, organized and amplified through a holy warrior or priest. This would provide a natural point of leadership as well, with an appeal to the integrity of its ideals. The RP ideas of the players made this too diffused, and any attempt at the start would likely have been pulled apart quickly. There is a chance for this to develop in-game, this would likely last longer. This is fully in the hands of the players then. Its not like it isn’t always, but with the challenges of either forcing the players into certain mind sets, or letting them develop it, the later is more sustainable. The impact of this is that the North Revealed: Bond of Water is not set at the beginning, and the advantage not gained (though it could be in the future). Instead of a bond, its just a theme.
