Greyhawk – End of Days

World of Greyhawk™ (Wizards of the Coast)

[This incarnation of ©Wizards of the Coast World of Greyhawk™ is part of the iVerse continuum.] Greyhawk – End of Days is a setting that was destroyed in a cataclysm of raw power, hate, and evil. Greyhawk, Oerth, rose from a planet of diverse creatures which somehow supported many sentient and highly evolved species. The gods of Oerth stewarded their chosen creatures, and they enjoyed strong followers and bountiful worship. The world was mostly a plaything for these beings, which took physical manifestation and interacted with other gods and the creatures of Oerth. It was a world in constant turmoil. However, the tide of dominance turned over time… humans became dominant, and they chose their gods or not. The more base creatures – goblins, orcs, etc. were being driven from the world, butchered and cleansed. And so the gods of Oerth, led by Iuz, formed a compact. They would take the essence of this aggressive and violent species – humans, and combined the worst (neutral evil) of it they could find with demon (chaotic evil) and devil (lawful evil). The resulting champion would lead them to dominion over the World of Greyhawk. Instead of one champion, this ritual ceremony gave birth to three – an Unholy Trio of gods of complete and total evil. Sun Stealer (embodiment of demon), Gloombringer (embodiment of human), and Everdark (embodiment of devil)… the Unholy Trio of Oerth. Together, stronger than all the gods of Greyhawk. These evil god’s first act was to kill their creators. After consolidating their power in a matter of days, they whipped the armies of humanoids into a frenzy, bargained with entities from the far realms and brought legions of goblins and orcs. Instituted breeding programs to continue to make their armies, and marched out from their lands and begins the Times of Sunset.

Where once the line between good and evil is blurred in the name of survival and/or conquest, now light battles darkness, death battles life, old struggles with new for the survival of civilization. All the world slowly unites against the common foe they face night and day – though it is not fast enough as the political infighting seemingly cannot be stopped until it is too late. Countless heroes die in countless battles – all unknown and unsung. Eventually, the proud remnants make a stand, unified. The final gods of Oerth are cast down, millions die in a battle that rages for weeks. Even the unholy trio of gods is depleted and goes into seclusion to regain their power. This gives the last united peoples a chance to flee, and their only option is to flee the world itself. Led by a band of heroes that had fought the dark gods directly, not as servants of other gods but as servants of humanity, they made a final stand along the banks of a massive river in a place of power that allowed the hundreds of thousands of others to pass through a gate into another world. The wrath of the Unholy Trio was so great, it began to consume the planet itself. In the end, they managed to pursue, sending their followers through the gate before it closed, but they themselves could not. The planet was torn asunder in their all consuming hate and anger, and they transported themselves through space and time to the world the gate lead to. Much depleted they were, though still their power was greater than most gods.

THE WORLD WAS DESTROYED IN 1987/1988 IN A CAMPAIGN THAT PLAYED IT OUT. This lead to the formation of the Steel Realms – the place where the survivors fled to.
