Versipellis (Lycanthrope/Teeth-Bearers)

The Creatura Versipellis, commonly referred to as the “Teeth-Bearers”, or “Lycanthropes” are a form of mutation wherein the a Faelen is able to shift back and forth from a primal bestial humanoid (of the related species) and their natural humanoid form. These are often the result of a mutation (or corruption) between the Beast Spark and Water Spark with the Bodhi element of sentience. These are rare (and breed true when their progenitors are both/all natural mutations), but often express in the same settings as the more controlled, but less powerful, Merovin subspecies of Faelen (human). Lycanthropes ARE NOT MEROVIN. Other avenues of acquiring such a form come from embracing a divine principle related to the beast form, a curse from such, or a curse upon their spark given as a gift by an entity they are seeking power from. Lastly, a curse of enmity from a powerful foe may be the source. While in Veris transformation during their cycle, the power that is funneled is referred to as “The Fury”.

Non-Faelen (humans) can be cursed with this form, but cannot acquire it through natural mutation.

Chaos and Fury: While The Fury is upon them, they fall utterly into operating under an extreme Chaos Creed. Violence is their natural reaction to all stimulus.

Cycle Driven: These creatures are bound to the cycle of shadows and darkness. Typically bound to a short period during a roughly 30 day cycle when their powers are at an apex, but control is minimal. In most cases, it is a lunar based cycle. At the end of a cycle, when they have returned to their humanoid form, they must feed on raw meat 10x the normal amount for a meal to recover from the change.

Raw Power: The Veris form, half beast/half humanoid, evinces the highest end physical traits of the full human and full beast form. Their mental capabilities recede and the result is a powerhouse of destructive killing power. Creatures and manifestations normally only susceptible to mystical effects can be harmed dreadfully by this form.

  • Natural Trigger: Those who have willingly assumed or are naturally possessed the mantle of The Fury, it can be brought on 1 Essence for an encounter which returns after a long rest.

Primal Predator: While in the Veris form, the beast does not mark friend of foe differently. Some effects that manipulate or control beasts can channel the ferocity in another direction, but not abate the rage and violence. Those few natural members of this expression can trigger their transformation outside of the normal cycle, but still lack control over themselves once The Fury is released.

  • Hard to Kill: While they are changed and The Fury possesses them, they are resistant to non-magical weapons and attacks, but can be harmed by silver weapons.
  • Aggravated Bite: All bites cause aggravated (1) damage. Most can pass on their curse this way, depending on its source.

Bestial Countenance: In their humanoid form, they take on the looks of the beast in their heart. This usually is more emphasized as they age.

Cursed Teeth Bearers

Most often, this ‘condition’ is the result of a curse.

The Grand Lineage (3 generations)

Such beings cursed or not born as a Lycanthrope will often have a chance for their offspring of two additional generations to manifest the curse. It will be manifested when they hit puberty.
