Gadur/Emerald Kingdoms

EmeraldEmerald Kingdoms Emerald

Planet of Gadur; This setting is part of the iVerse continuum. In the iVerse, it is the planet the with greatest amount of Equitas Crystals in the entire universe. It makes the planet utterly undetectable except to the naked eye. The gravity of the planet can be observed from a distance, but no sensor will register it directly. This, plus a system with a massive amount of asteroids (that never collide with the planet) makes it a destination that is never traveled to.

Equitus (Crystal – Essence of Order)

The name stems from the massive amounts of emeralds found all over and the innate magical ability to use them
to fuel powers of the divine and occult, to transport people and objects through portals and gateways, moving across the lands. The largest of the emeralds, larger than a man are used in the construction of permanent gateways – portals to other worlds.

Overview

The Role of Emeralds: These stones play a role in the economy, magic, faith, and socio-political struggles across the lands. Because of their properties, the search and extraction of them is very hazardous. Miners are typically forced labor and slaves. The lifespan of those seeking to extract the stones
is directly proportional to the safety taken in protecting the skin and breathing passages when doing it.

Properties of the Stones: The stones are incredibly sharp and brittle. Dust can get into the eyes an lungs of the extractor and cause permanent damage. If a cut should occur while handling them, it often becomes infected and septic – such cuts must be cauterized swiftly, or a loss of digit or limb may happen.

Emerald Mines

There are many veins of the stones. Because the gem stones are so dangerous, cutting huge tunnels through or along veins is a high risk. Many children are sold into slavery or to repay debts in the worst lands of the realms – to end up working in the mines. Their small size allows them to get next to the veins and easily chip out chunks. Typically though, safety is lowest priority – in most cases, it is a death sentence.

Emerald Gates

  • To the Steel Realms – There are a couple gate portals to the Realms, but all go to a single ‘receiver’ gate on the other side.

Milieu Information

Adventuring

  • Partial notes from the very first full campaign played in the milieu.

At the time of this campaign, the world was a 2nd Ed. AD&D world… It started off as a Stormbringer world.
AD&D™ 3.0 rules were eventually used in the world as well.

  • Ishtar Ishtar is a continent starved of magic, Ishtar was once thriving with human and dwarven settlements. In three great wars, the land was eventually conquered and is now a bastion of chaos and death. Orc’s and goblin tribes reign across the lands and what little humanity that remains are bread to be slaves and food.

  • Landar

Landar is magic rich. This land is home to human
civilization. The land is divided up into dukedoms and city states. Most pay homage to the
king of landar’s lower realms. The king keeps a stable of about 100 griffin’s which his elite knights use as mounts.

Kharovar – Undead city located in the far northern edge of Landar. The heart of civilization some 2000 years ago, the city is now lay beneath 1 mile of polar ice. The Gem of Kharovar, (long story) draws mana from around the world and redistributes it into the lands around Kharovar. This causes huge distortion of mana across the world, causing Landar to be mana rich, and the continent of Ishtar, on the opposite side of the world, to be mana starved. The lich king and his council are the source of all that is undead across the land. The transition to undeath was not by choice (again long story) and the Lich king and his council of undead arch-mages, spend their energies to find a cure for their undead state while maintaining the near immortality they currently enjoy. This has lead to them creating vampires, werewolves etc. Each being a failed experiment to recover their lost soul and cure their state of undeath.

  • Ivory Isles

Laying between Ishtar and Landar, The elves dwell isolated and in peace.
They suffered greatly in the great wars of Ishtar and retreated from
their great cities back to the seat of power and home on the Ivory
Isles. The Gem of Kharovar’s draw of mana has affected the elves
greatly however, as a magical race, only the strongest of children
survive child birth. Many though are stillborn. Though they benefit
from longevity, as a race they are in a precarious balance as the
surviving birth rate can barely keep up with those who parish from age
    or adventure.

  • Myrna

A plain land, Myrna lay opposite of the Ivory isles. It is a diverse
land that has normal, if not slightly elevated magic flows across it as
the ley lines draw magic to Kharovar. All manner of human races exist
here and there is one of the few known (though knowledge is hidden)
portals into the underdark. The primary culture of Myrna is Druidic.
