Blue-Snake Ridge (of Dormu’s Peak)

Steel Realms

Geo-Location: Duchy of Dunstrand

This winding (like a snake) ridge begins about 2km from Dormu’s Peak itself, and runs from a sharp 50m cliff at the water northwest to the peak’s base, providing the easiest access to halfway up the peak. There appears to be bluish steaks in the stones running down the sides, like water. The ridgeline rises through the misty collar around the base (typical of Scar Flow), with only about 40-50m height of misty terrain to go through as it rises slowly up – thinner than normal for the area. There is a faint sound of running water all around the ridgeline.

Perceive (@Notice) > Difficulty = Hard > Success:

Through the light mist and haze, you can make out that the top of the ridgeline is flat, wide enough for a human to walk on.

EXPLORING THE AREA

Searching for Safe Harbor

The waters around the peak are dark and filled with the typically sludge and debris of Scar Flow. A few melt streams from the iced main peak run into the brackish water but the treacherous currents take the water and immediately mix it and carry it away. The ridge has a few small streamlets, where it collects from rock flows and dumps into the stiller water around the ridge base.

The Rocky Overhang: This is a seemingly safe place from the constant treacherous winds to drop anchor. Absent the winds, under the overhang the tidal flow seems to get canceled out – or at least a boat could be secured from multiple sides easily. In reality, there are creatures in the overhang that will drop on ships that use it for safe harbor.

The Shallow Inlet: This is a seemingly safe place from the constant treacherous tides to drop anchor. A small stone outcrop causes the worst of the tidal flows to be deflected and breaks the worst of the prevailing wind. In reality, the slope on the ridge is loose and stones will drop on ships (with unerring accuracy and the worst timing) that use it for safe harbor.

The Still Harbor: This is a seemingly safe place from the constant treacherous tides and wind to drop anchor. Debris is easily seen, and the current seems to barely flow at all. In reality, the slope on the ridge is loose and stones will drop on ships that use it for safe harbor, and the a mist tendril will drop from the ridge into the harbor filled with spiritus.

The Deep Harbor

Constant streams of mist fall from the ridgeline about 60m up like tentacles. A semi-circle rock outcrop protects the area from a hard tidal flow that flows past it. There seems to be a current of flowing water from behind a stony outcrop, that a streamlet runs above. That stream from the rocks spilling into the bay seems to create a small bay of clear water, though getting into it looks dangerous.

The harbor is deep, 10-13m, and protected by a fast flow with debris in it (it can’t break hulls but can ruin rudders and propulsion if it has any). Once in the strange natural harbor, the water is clear. The wreck of a ship bow up, preserved by the cold clear water, can be seen (and avoided).

Top of the Ridgeline

The ridgeline path is flattened, as you may have suspected, though in the center of the winding “path” is a well-worn, water eroded channel; No water flows through it now. The top of the flattened ridgeline is covered in “blue” stones… it appears as if explosions or lightning strikes along its course, that turned the rock blue and exploded it in several places. Loose stones cover the top of the ridgeline. The total distance along the ridgeline to where it connects to the peak, with all the turns, as about 4km.

Perception > The ridgeline path is dotted with loose stones of many sizes making the walk potentially dangerous, though they seem staged to be as “random” as possible – too random.

The Misty Collar

Ahead, the “misty collar” is frothing and flexing – strong winds blow below it, and as you get within 100m of it, you can see your breath. Ice is forming wherever there is sweat or moisture on your body.

If the other peaks in the area with “misty collar” properties have been explored, this one is noticeably stronger and hazier.

Perception > It sounds as if there are faint voices that can be made out over the winds that swirl around and through it. The strength of these winds should be dispersing it, but it is not.
