The Waurstweigs: Each of the ruling bloodlines in the Riverdans maintains a hall of records (“Waurstweigs”) – many in disrepair. They are obligated in the charter for the River claims to offer the services of a scribe and teacher for their communities. Often this consists of one and one to two apprentices and nothing more. School houses are often used as dorms for them, and they are barely paid enough to live and work on. Technically this public education is available to everyone, but it is a shadow of what it once was. Now only some children in the major cities were the record halls are attend classes – but it does happen in these few remaining places. Classes are rarely more than 10-15 children at a time. The ancient language of Dundarian is still practiced here, and used to cipher the communications of the Trail Doves.
