Pilgrims in the Steel Realms
Pilgrims of the realms are a common sight on the roads and byways, making
pilgrimages to honored or sacred places of family, faith, or creed. Most are steeped in faith, and pitted against the gods of darkness, it is considered by many to be the duty for all of the faithful to make at least 1 pilgrimage during their life time. Each faith has places sacred to them all over the realms – shrines to many gods dot the sides of roads. Pilgrims may approach seeking to camp with, beg for food or water, or small coin to continue their travels. It is considered poor form to refuse some measure of generosity to these pilgrims, and those wishing to avoid embarrassment and perhaps even loss to reputation for spurning such had best travel overland – avoiding the roads and shrines and typical pilgrim paths.
- Single pilgrim:
- Family of pilgrims:
- Band of pilgrims: A small group which usually is purposeful in their gathering and journey – picking their members for familiarity and safety.
- Mob of pilgrims: These are large (40+) groups, often filled with zealots and can be prone to violence and hostility to outsiders.
Perils of Pilgrimage: It draws bold highwaymen sometimes, seeking these shrines as an easy payout – but they draw powerful figures of faith and adventurers as well, a risky proposition. the worst is to run into a member of the Silver Talents aggressively guarding the pilgrims path. Pilgrims and trappers or miners are likely to be warned of what signs to look for, whereas adventurers… not so much so.
