iSwift Outcome Resolution Method (d20 ONLY)

This material is not meant for Players or GMs; This is part of design, development and testing and is intended for that audience to assist in creating and assessing Incarna materials.

Status: READY FOR USE 12-19-2022 (not under revision or review)

ONLY Applicable to the i20 Variant

Outcome scales represent both basic SUCCESS/FAILURE determination as well as a measure of Quality of Success. The iSwift Outcome Resolution Method uses the game standard Resolution Scale. iSwift is the primary i20 expression of the Incarna Outcome Resolution method.

Resolution Check = A single check using the full spread of 1-20 (typically using a “d20“) is made and its final adjusted value (with all adjustments – positive and negative) compared to the target Difficulty Class (DC) on an outcome matching chart or table.

Negative and/or Zero Representation? Always equivalent to “Failure”, or as “Disastrous” if the GM determines. There is no “singular” expression in this spread of results as outcomes.

  1. Disastrous: Worst possible outcome; critical non-success. Equivalent to -2 Measures in most cases. Classically a “Fumble” outcome. The GM will determine how the Disastrous outcome manifests through Narration and action type.
    • Natural 1: Always a Failure and Disastrous; GM determines the impact of a Disastrous outcome (if there is one). Equivalent to -3 Measures.
    • Adjusted 1 or less: Always a Failure; GM determines if it is Disastrous and its impact. Equivalent to -3 or -2 Measures (as Dire or as GM desires).
  2. Dire: Equal to or less than the target DC -5. Equivalent to -2 Measures in most cases.
  3. Failure: Less than target DC. Equivalent to -1 Measures.
  4. Simple: Equal to, and up to the DC +4. An “Average” success; Equivalent to +1 Measures in most cases.
  5. Major: Equal to or greater than the target DC +5. Equivalent to +2 Measures.
  6. Extraordinary: A natural 20 or anything labeled as “Critical”. Equivalent to +3 Measures in most cases. Unless this specific outcome (achieving an unadjusted check result of “20” on d20) was required, it is always Extraordinary. The GM will determine how the Extraordinary outcome manifests through Narration and action type.

Deprecated iCore Implementation of iSwift

There was an iCore 3 level iSwift implementation for Incarna 6 that was deemed to not fit the iCore outcome operational needs. iCore Outcome Resolution was restored as the standard for iCore resolution only.
