Back Story

From Atreus’s Journal:

Greeting my name is Atreus, I was born and raised in Averul in The Saelish. My mother raised me with the help from the other librarians and scholars where she worked in the Brayfhayl Cultural Library. She never talked about my father, even when I would ask about him. He had left the community, seemingly disgraced, but no one will talk to me about it yet. She was a librarian in The Annex at Brayfhayl (in the city of Averul), most of my early years were spent reading and studying in the library under the tutelage of different scholars who regularly visited the The Cylinder portion of the library – I would pretend to be a assistant and get in with them. Some slipped up and hinted that my father may have worked in the library as well. I became passionate about the pursuit of knowledge, because of this passion my social skills were not fully developed outside of academic settings. Every day, I would enter the library and look up to see the great seal of Thoth above the doorway, his ibis head looking down upon me as if the god was looking down upon me himself.

Shortly after my 13th birthday Thoth appeared before me, at that time I did not recognize him. He had disguised himself as a scholar, we talked for a time about my studies and my passion for the lost knowledge of the ancestors. From that day forward he would visit me from time to time, when he did he would advise me on a new tome to study and quiz me on the tome he had me read from his previous visit. On my 17th birthday he revealed his true form to me and said; “Your passion and pursuit of knowledge caught my attention and over the past 4 years I have been testing you. You have passed this first test, and know I offer to become your guide. If you accept, know this I will expect you to devote yourself to the recovery and preservation of knowledge, so that the knowledge of the Tribes of Bronze may rise once more, but only in spirit, in a new Saelisnean way. From time to time I will advise you and task you with a quest or two.”

I accepted his offer and devoted myself to the task. I knew in time I would need to adventure out in order to complete this task with all my passion. I needed to achieve some fame and reputation in order to get access to the library’s deepest chambers. So I started reading martial books and training with spear and shield (the weapon of my people) and learning how to channel Thoth’s divine protection. Soon enough I sought out the priesthood of Thoth in the Salish, in the Amunite Temple at The City of Naelb, along the Andrus River. They were surprised at how advanced my knowledge and my skill in the ways of their patron I was. There were visions, and beseechments, and I was accepted quickly into their ranks. I met with the great Speaker of Anubis from the Landsmen council who introduced me to others of my folk for a special mission. We were to take on a sacred mission venturing into the lands beyond our borders. Some others from The Saelish had been employed by The Gallants of Bar-Innis; We were to join them but report directly to a woman named as “Feather”, she will guide us to fulfilling the goals of our people and my god. We are warned, the outside world is dark, we are the light. There will need to be a cleansing before we are accepted back into our community because our souls will be stained with darkness. But this is necessary for the greater good of our people.

I now set out to follow the path that Thoth walked in ages past… to improve the lot of my community and people. It is one of my life goals to become trusted and strong enough to access the The Hart of the Brayfhayl library – where my people’s most ancient knowledge lies.

At the Druids after delivering the Items from the North

Atreus looks to replenish his medical kit. Not enough time to do that and everything else that’s going on. You are not allowed to wander around the area too much, and the druids are too busy to assist.

CY 9168, participated in the baptism of Ssisslenn.
