Time of Service

Time of Service indicates that the character served a very active period of service under some authority, organization/institution, military, civilian, or society within a Setting. The primary reason to use this is to impart experience, knowledge, and perspective gained without having to play through them. This can be used by Players for their character histories to allow them to leverage some of their own experiences, or filler to gain knowledge in down time between adventures. GMs may use this to begin a campaign or a character at a higher profile/experience level than the point of a novice or neophyte character. It can ONLY be taken with GM approval. Military service can be under an enlistment, volunteer or drafted. It is not an indicator of combat experience in an of itself, though will be as appropriate. Integrated into the Time of Service may be various branches of Lore that the character can learn from their surroundings. Characters may also get mundane Prestige Items as part of a reward from a Time of Service. Characters who share the same Time of Service, often develop an Esprit de Corps – an inspired bond of loyalty that helps them to work more effectively together.
