Planet of Gadur; This setting is part of the iVerse continuum.

The name stems from the massive amounts of emeralds found all over and the innate magical ability to use them
to fuel powers of the divine and occult, to transport people and objects through portals and gateways, moving across the lands. The largest of the emeralds, larger than a man are used in the construction of permanent gateways – portals to other worlds.
The Role of Emeralds: These stones play a role in the economy, magic, faith, and socio-political struggles across the lands. Because of their properties, the search and extraction of them is very hazardous. Miners are typically forced labor and slaves. The lifespan of those seeking to extract the stones
is directly proportional to the safety taken in protecting the skin and breathing passages when doing it.
Properties of the Stones: The stones are incredibly sharp and brittle. Dust can get into the eyes an lungs of the extractor and cause permanent damage. If a cut should occur while handling them, it often becomes infected and septic – such cuts must be cauterized swiftly, or a loss of digit or limb may happen.
There are many veins of the stones. Because the gem stones are so dangerous, cutting huge tunnels through or along veins is a high risk. Many children are sold into slavery or to repay debts in the worst lands of the realms – to end up working in the mines. Their small size allows them to get next to the veins and easily chip out chunks.
Typically though, safety is lowest priority – in most cases, it is a death sentence.
Emerald Gates
This world is not a magic rich plane. Magic items are usually charged or temporary items. those that are not, are usually evil in nature.
it takes life force to create a magic item. Force each measure of life, a weapon gains a +1 (CS). If the life force is given freely, the weapon is considered benign, good. It is evil otherwise, and malign. All life force must come from a single source. An aging priest, knight or magus are typically the sources for the good weapons… willingly giving up their remaining time for a greater cause. For items with special powers, you need the life force (although it does not require death always) of a creature which has the innate ability to wish to mimic (ex: fire lizard for a flaming sword). Temporary items are made by sacrificing mana points and using emeralds as a catalyst. These mana come back at 1 per week. During that time, the magus also loses the ability to use the spell imbued in the item. They can re-learn it independently.

Stormshadow: This ornate short sword has a white metal blade (from oxidizing) and a brass and silver pommel. The pommel is decorated with a large sapphire and two 1ct. diamonds. The sapphires main magical
properties are such that it maintains a pinprick portal into a realm where it draws electrical power. This sends a constant current through the blade. A diamond is embedded in the hilt, on each side of the sapphire. One bestows and insulation to whoever grasps the hilt to protect them from the blades current. Still, it takes a moment to enact this and any wielder will take some form of damage (2 pts). Leather gauntlets can halve the damage.
In combat, parries, blocks and connecting with metallic armor causes the blade to send 4 pnts of electrical damage n addition to any normal damage on a normal hit.
