The Ashenblades

Steel Realms
The Ashenblades were the name given three blades made by the tortured bladesmith Evelyn Ashenthorn. All of the blades were made with Balefire – the blood of the god Sun Stealer. The three blades were Dumahr, Palfire, and Koridgue.

Palfire – The Unmaker

Palfire was the first of the Ashenblades. It was commissioned to slay a powerful vampire-magus that had taken several towns under thralldom and seemed unstoppable. It was made swiftly and suffered trial and error issues. It succeeded, but it took in the essence of the vampire, growing more aware and evil and the blade itself had to be destroyed after.

Koridgue – The Timeless

Koridgue was the second Ashenblades, and made for a hero to slay a demon who had risen as a powerful general in the forces of Sun Stealer. The blade managed to kill what seemed to be unkillable, and it believed that Sun Stealer’s blood was in the demon itself, for it took the blade into itself and both vanished as it was cast back to the outer darkness forever.

Dumahr – The God-Killer

Dumahr was the last of the Ashenblades. And one of the last blades she made before the Fall of the East (CY 2899). The blade was made to break living altars of darkness, to undo the Unholy. Nothing living cut by it could regenerate, it created wounds that would not heal – even in the undead. The blade was tortured by her over and over. Imbued with Balefire, it had an essence of its own and an awareness she poured pain and suffering into. She said of it, that it could extinguish any of the “fires will within”. She vowed to never make another Ashenblade after it was made. She never confided in who commissioned it or for what exactly. It was carried out of the Fallen East soon after it fell by a paladin/Green Knight of Darupet named Hemen Feastborn. He went east, to the lands of Rhyl, leading his retinue and his order to a new home. IT is unknown what happened to the blade, but it was never heard from again.
