CY 9000 The Summer That Would Not End
In the spring of 9000, a sweet wind sweeps from the heartlands in Fahyl and it is the most fertile year in a hundred years. The Summer lasts nearly 55% longer than normal, tapering off into a few weeks of Fall, then Winter. Soon after this, the Curtain of Night retreats slightly, eventually regaining its place, but the raiding in the lands of light halves overnight.
It tapers off to next to nothing over the next few decades and the pattern of the curtain fluctuating and the Darklands going silent lasts four solid decades, continuing into present time (CY 9130’s).
Elancil claims the long summer as her own. She and her followers take credit for the odd persisting effects that holds The Curtain of Night at bay… or at least the Orrish in the Dark Lands grow quiet. Although there is no unified ‘ask’ by her, the expansion of Gwinn in the north is somewhat ignored by the High King. He tries to enjoin their leaders in diplomacy, though it is mostly to delay hostilities more than anything else. It is believed that ultimately, it is to gather strength and solidify alliances in the face of an expansionist vision by Gwinn.
The The Purge of Hermenna in CY 9120 is considered by many to bookmark the beginning of the end of The Long Summer of Elancil.
This was noticed for the first time on a larger scale during the Long Summer of Elanicil. Services from the Ducateon are getting more difficult to arrange. They still produce goods and sell them to make it seem like they have a presence and are doing their part but they are rarely seen in these days. After the Troll Wars and over the Long Summer, they have been interacting noticeably less and less in The Noble East. It seems like they are retreating from the surface world and the conflicts of The Steel Realms.
With a lull in the worst hostilities, the Ducateon’s fading presence was noticed by a few. No representative gave a reason for it, and kept messaging about the perceived withdrawal enigmatic at best. There was no surprise or alarm from any of the kind, and so it is inferred they know of it and it is either planned or some understood phenomenon.
