Grand Duchy of Rhyl in the Steel Realms

Steel Realms

The Grand Duchy of Rhyl is the vital “shield of the north” since the Lich Lords took Lichrya (Fallen Dundaria) – the heart of the far north – and political relations broke down with the rest. It is part of the High King’s extended lands, not the territorial Kingdom of Gladnor, and is located in the east of the northern heartlands.

Located on Ustermaya .

Overview: Rhyl is an ancient and quiet place except its borders. Long has it been settled in the east and south – but forever it has held true to the treaties it made with the wyld peoples of the pine tribes bordering it to the west. Rhyl is an ancient culture of old traditions, constant war with the Lich Lords, law, and order. Their culture has deep roots in the desire for peace, freedom, and balance. Their culture is a mix of ancient ones that once mingled in the north, and their own influenced by Gladnor. The ancient game of Rauket is still played with its rivals of the Merchant Cities of the North. Even if the lands are warring or enguaged in one of their endless disagreements, they come together for this tradition. Rhyl has some of the oldest noble families in all the realms outside of the kingdom of Gladnor. Tall pines, cold winds, deep silence, and mystery are found deep in the massive pine forest at its heart. For many centuries in its long past, an ancient albino dragon ruled some of the surrounding lands with a fearsome appetite and breath of burning cold – until a band of brave adventurers came along strong enough to kill it. Its head is mounted over the Ducal seat in the Principality of Rhylan (the capital) and has become part of the symbol of the ducal house.
