Encounters on Shanlehare

Steel Realms

Somewhere, west of the Seaborne Isles in the Thadrician Ocean is the prison-island of ElancilShanlehare – Where the goddess sends those who displease her who are without divine protection. Many strange creatures and lifeforms are found here, as well as spirits of the dead – trapped forever in their “bad dream”.

Hostile Plants of Shanlehare

Angry Kelp: Kelp Strand; 1 x party# [The equivalent of awakened shrubs.] : The damage they do is in SALT burns. If a non-piercing, non fire source of damage kills a target kelp/shrub, the kelp bladders burst and spray D4/2 SALT damage in a 5′ radius.

Vitorienese

Living at the highest point on the island, hidden by mist and clouds is the undying giant Vitorienese. He was the original punishment recipient and exchanged comfort and duties as a jailor and hunter for the misery of his consignment. Possessed of a mean disposition and his only ‘friends’ a pack of pure white cloud wolves, his sole job is to make the lives of those who are sent to the island a living hell until they are dead. He is mean, curt, and without mercy.

The ‘Island’ Speaks

A deep ruble shifts the sands and earth under your feet. Grasses and leaves shake as a vibration rumbles up from the depths. A hole opens next to you, and the dirt begins to fill it. The hole becomes a mouth, and it gasps as it fills will dirt, speaking over the gargling earth in deep sonorous words. “Fellow beings, I am Meyd. You are trapped as I. You cannot see me, but I am all around, I am the island imprisoned in the sea. Long have we been here, playthings of the same cruel mistress. I have little time ‘er she will sense my manifesting to you. The island will provide for you – the blood, bones, and flesh of those taking its sustenance, and the sustenance itself can be used to thwart her minions and trials. As for the way out, I only sense one portal off the island. It is in possession of the giant in the clouds. Aside from this, perhaps a raft, kill all yourselves, or stay and…” The mouth speaking turns into a face, and the face tries to speak but no more words come out – you sense that something is blocking it.

The entity of “Meyd” is more a manifestation of the will of those who have thwarted Elancil. It will try and assist any newcomers, but sanity is not its strong suit. A character can attempt to reach out and make a mental link with the persona of ‘Meyd’. If they succeed, the places where Meyd can help them are noted in materials as [Meyd] and at each point of contact make a Sanity check 5 easier. If it succeeds, Meyd provides the noted help/information via the same deep, sonorous voice and vanishes. Only one character needs to be linked, and the check should reflect the best chance amongst all who are.
