Gorgewood

Steel Realms

The church is in a small town called Gorgewood, named for the gorge running through the town from what used to be a river. The river was diverted around the town and leads out towards the capital of the fiefdom. You only have to travel 20 miles on the river to reach Gorgewood from the main city of the area Port Towne, but it is still largely unnoticed. The Green Church is probably the most significant thing there, being a u-shaped building, the left side devoted to Gaia, and the right to Darupet.

There is only a small militia, and they rely on the church to take care of anything other than common bar fights and thefts. The church uses the militia to investigate murders and more severe crimes. The town took to calling the militia ‘the voice of Gorgewoods dead’.

Plots, Etc.: The descendants of the nobility that once ruled may be waging a underground war – slow, to make the church look bad, and to prove to the populace that they cannot be protected by them. Ultimately, some group should have the monopoly on the trade through the area (the family descendants pulling strings in the background), and perhaps there is a dispute over the river course – some in the church believe it was an abomination and want to change it back. Other small land owning families think it should be diverted even more – a small political war is building up that could be distracting. Also, perhaps a priest or small sect of Elancil hopes to simply unleash the river from all chains and let it find its own course.
