The Far West (“The Bright West”/Bitterlands)

Steel Realms
Located on the continent of Sayvalod .
The Far West (referred to as “The Bright West” in the pas, and now “The Bitterlands” (for the Steel Realms inhabitants who see them as bitter and weak), is a place of culture and great emptiness. It has a calamitous history and is filled with extreme set backs, like much of The Noble East (Steel Realms). They have few of the terrors of the Steel Realms on Ustermaya, and yet must pay tribute and send materials and soldiers to fight the forces of the Undead and Unholy Trio… Not only that, but they suffered continuously from the dreams of dragons and civil strife and multiple massive collapses… and so are “bitter”.

The main landmass with populations is now referred to as Greatmaed, a corrupted form of “Great Made” – made by great beings – it was made during Morphoerastlynn’s Dream Scattering. Greatmaed is a land where the borders of worlds are often thin. There are several places on the east that are stable and where the races make their home. There are no Orrish (though many seek the power of the gods of the darkness), no Winter Host, and only abundance and the lands are verdant.

Common Planetary Knowledge: Through lore and knowledge, the peoples of the realms and the world refer to the planet they are on as HELCA, generally understand it is a sphere, that it revolves around a sun, has a native pair of moons and an unnatural, broken moon, called “The Interloper”; All this and that there are others like it in a larger cosmos and in the solar system; At least 2 other planets are visible in the night sky understood to revolve around the same sun, with the ‘solar system’ sometimes referred to as “Ostus”. Beyond this, most PC races (and many NPC) have a basic understanding of tidal and wind currents, navigation, vulcanism, basic helio-centric cosmology, and weather are understood (to a degree), by learned people – though it is couched in mysticism, religion, and myth.

Species Relations

Sayvalod is almost 100% human, There are no elves except as travelers. There has been a purposeful attempt to keep non-human settlers out and the attitudes of the people reflect this. There are isolated pockets of mixed elven blood – villages and towns only where they are welcome for the stigma of a half breed is mostly absent and they are more seen as “exotic” (as long as they mostly keep to themselves). There are colonies still of the ancient races which once were the only ones present – the goat-like Drunnad and a few of the more reclusive animal archetype based species. There are no Merovin here – they are not tolerated, hunted and killed wherever they are found.
