The Volunteer Service Agency (VSA) handles the routing and training of Volunteers Service Corps – also referred to as The King’s Militia. These are irregular units used to supplement and augment the normal military and/or its logistical needs. Joining the VSC does not commit to lengthy enlistments. Volunteers with existing basic military service or better can serve a 6 month (Short) tour, otherwise the tour is 18 months. Most serve only a single tour, using the service to bounce back their fortunes and gain breathing room to figure out their next life move. Unlike the normal non-commissioned military, anyone joining may bring their own weapons and armor.
VSC Hold: While entered, it is illegal for additional interest or penalties to be assessed by documented legal debts (except in Umbak). Mustering out of the VSC has nowhere near the benefits of the regular military, but it can suspend debt and prevent debtors prison or other such things from happening. Though the pay is less than regular military, some may qualify to register and pay a debt and their pay will go to that, automatically sent and matched by the VSA.
