Interlude – Note to the baron’s herald on trade

JESSE: With the killing of the harbormaster I would like to write out a note to the Barons Herald to leave in the dead drop in town. The premise is…

“It may be worth suggesting to your lord that entering into negotiations with the residents of Aquis Pluma. Should the effective Embargo against the keep be lifted, the Pin Feathers could be convinced to repudiate the rumors of the Baron ordering unlawful assassinations of locals over what is seen as a petty offense. Should Feather or Ulrich declare the rumors surrounding the harbormaster and why he was killed as false, it would kill much if not all the momentum. Creating unnecessary enemies amidst current events will only further the Silver Stacks conquest over the Barony.”

COPY OF PROCLIMATION:

Whosoever shall move goods through Barony of Crestwold in order to execute trade agreements and fulfillments is required to log all shipments of import and export through the newly constituted “Baron’s Office of Oversight” in the harbor district of Torrelson’s Ford. The Bank of the Silver Stacks, and it’s agent Sira Aaron Mokar, until such a time as the baron’s debt is discharged, is to oversee all trade through the barony and collect taxes and fees for the baron. Taxes for the areas around Torrelson’s Ford will be handled by the office as well. A new “Registry for Lands and Revenue” is to be instituted. Part of it’s goal is to assess correct land parcels for proper taxation. Any organization not on that list is not allowed to conduct non personal business. A portion of this shall include an excise tax that goes to the repayment of the baron’s debt. A tabulation and report shall be made available to any citizen, in its office.

Letter (encoded): There is no embargo per se. You are simply not on the list. ‘Fees’ are required, and they have been instructed to hold up applications and deny them for The Gallants. In terms of power in western Crestwold, there is not much to be done. I don’t think there is anything personal (yet) for them, and perhaps its just a matter of enough… ‘fees’ being payed. Josie did not want to play their game. She does have her right hand man, Alois, looking into it (probably using the Elon – watch out, they are being watched as well), but he is not to be found in town – word is he left on a mission for Josie. Sira Coran Maerkle, the agent of Tolman’s Guides, is trying to find a way to cut her out.
