History with the Group

Calahans: The group gradually formed as a hang-out at Calahans Radioactive Saloon. Over the last few weeks, they have hung out more and more, getting to know the background of each other, building trust, and staying less and less with their initial contacts in the Aidonnite Syndicate. This has not gone unnoticed, and their superiors have formally recognized this self-organized bunch and are hinting strongly that a mission is coming for the special talents of ‘Calahans rabble’.

Initial: He met Adrian Desowl on a mission to rescue an illicit mining crew from a washout due to one of the infamous Kaldorphion “gallop” storms. He was brought to treat any wounded. On the journey out they began to talk and Virgil realized that there was more to the swaggering image than he thought – they both shared a love of technical things and they struck up a friendship that has lasted, both talking about getting away from the criminal world they both find themselves trapped in. Virgil was a frequenter of Calahans – were the group eventually formed. Jackson Shertz was on the same mission – a surveyor and explorer. Initially Virgil was unimpressed, as he offered little in the way of technical knowledge to share a bond with, but after hearing about his constant life-saving exploits in rescue efforts and ability to brave environmental hardships, he soon began to accept him as one of the few decent characters in the crime syndicate – and Virgil felt he needed all the friends he could get to remake his fortunes.
Personal Background

Virgil was very typical of his kind. He grew up quiet, focused, and knew what he wanted from the very early days of his youth. Growing up on the home world of Tetrac, he assimilated into his society and became a productive citizen. But something always inside of him pushed him to leave. At first it was choosing a school away from his home and community of Creightanne. Then, secondary school at Heiphton. Then, he was one of the few to enter the Imperium Explorers Society, where he got experiences with new technology. His contract was made with IES directly, and he agreed to be party of a group studying flora and fauna of Outworlds. He agreed to work as an engineer on the science vessel ISV Haytham. One of its stops was the Outworld of Kaldorphion, to review some rare strains of Orrish plants left behind after their occupation ended 20 years earlier. After exploring the ruins at the Torchua complex, he was asked to come down to the surface and see if the Orrish fusion reactor could be brought online. He worked for a day on restoring some power, then his party was slaughtered by an unknown band of Orrish still surviving in the wild. He was taken captive and the only one to make it out after a break out attempt. The reactor, partially powered, began a series of chain reactions providing explosions (though the core was fine), providing the cover for the unplanned escape. Unfortunately, the Orrish had wired some areas to blow, and a lot of waste material was blown into the atmosphere. The IES disavowed the missing crew and left immediately – stranding him on Kaldorphion. He made his way back to Landau City, pawned all the gear he could to live for a while, but found few would hire him. Eventually, he made a connection with one of the less reputable firms. He found it was a front for a criminal business in the Bithataen Breach – a seedy section of the city still under repairs from the Orrish occupation and home to the organized crime elements of society there. There he was able to work as a “Street doc” fixing up wounds of the gang members. Although skilled enough, it was his least desire to stick to this – somehow he wants to find a job to utilize his true science skills.
