Kit was the 5th child to Eva and Mack. His twin sisters died when he was 5 and 7. They were all playing in a barn, and Kit was hammering on a board, pretending to shoe a horse, when it snapped and sent one sister tumbling to her death. Two years later he was playing pig farmer with the other sister and accidentally killed her with a pitchfork. He was driven out by his family. He went to the nearest town, hoping he could find work since he was big for his age. He found nothing but exploitation. After several fumbled thieving attempts, his poor fine dexterity came out, causing him to land in the workhouse and jail several times. He sought refuge in faith, but was used as nothing more than cannon fodder and developed a great fear of magic. He was so terrified at one point, his hair turned white. He decided no one would push him around. He was lucky to have survived all his trials, and had enough to scrape together weapons and armor, and study with caravan guards to learn the warriors craft. He volunteered to try and retrieve goods stolen from a merchant, and it turns out it was rogues working for a wizard. In the assault on the warehouse, the wizard blew him off the roof – sending him flying to land on his head. He woke up with nothing and no memory, in a dank alley, left for dead with his face heavily scarred. By luck, he bumped into a worker from the traveling circus. His terrifying looks and size the circus worker exploited and got him a job. He works for the circus and rooms with his newfound friend Jered, Jered took half his wages, he was easily duped. While shoveling out the stalls for dung, he knocked over an oil lamp and caused a stampede (though nobody knows but him). He dodges animals when they stampede, leading them away. He is the hero he always wanted to be, but Jered takes the credit for it. Holjer, a lone monk who saw the whole thing, takes him in as a guinea pig… to see if even simpletons can be taught. After hearing about his past, he teaches that weapons are the problem, and must be avoided. Kit must never use them. Improvised weapons are ok – only things not designed as weapons. It takes years, longer than it should, and Kit refuses to even shave his face. He is averse to weapons so much. He no longer uses silverware. At the age of 20, Holjer leaves him behind, completely fed up with the lack of intelligent conversation. Forced to fend for himself, he fights for anyone. Usually he fights for the poor and downtrodden who can only afford to feed, clothe and shelter him. Inadvertently, his actions put him squarely on the side of good, and doing good deeds becomes second nature to him – because he knows nothing else.
