Adventuring in the world of Ph’yrin Tys with Korvin, Ketta (after Maave), Phideas, Oren, and Kad?
Dwarven Fighter
Bio:
Oren Orchammer was the 8th child of a successful merchant father in the town of Neiklot. As a child, he would often play with the gems and jewelry. Much to his father’s chagrin, he would often take the necklaces apart and attempt to recreate them. However, as he grew older, his new creations were actually looking better than the originals. With this natural talent, he was sent to a Jeweler in his father’s merchant guild for a bit of formal training.
He also had some schooling and weapons training, as did his siblings. He was particularly adept at the Waraxe.
One day, a weapons master came to the store. He had acquired some gems that he wanted incorporated into some special order weapons. He asked Oren’s father if he knew of anyone with the talent to do this. His father suggested Oren give it a try. A bit reluctantly, the weapons master left the gems and weapons with Oren’s father and said he would be back in a week to see the results.
Oren was a bit nervous, but as he started the project, the ideas seemed to flow out of him. The gems seemed to take on a life of their own as he worked them into the weapons. In a week the weapons master returned for his order. He was so pleased, that he offered Oren the pick of any weapon in his shop (within reason, of course).
Oren had been eyeing a masterwork waraxe for quite a while, but had lacked the money to buy it. Oskar Ungart, the weapons master was impressed by his choice, but did not want to relinquish the weapon until he knew Oren could use it properly.
He challenged Oren to a bout to test his skills. They faced each other in leather practice armor in a yard behind his shop. Oren had youth and stamina on his side but Oskar had military training. They circled each other, swung their heavy axes, dodged and blocked until both were exhausted. Oren had to admit that he was bested, but Oskar was reassured that his masterwork weapon would be put to good use, eventually. He found he liked the young dwarf, and offered to pass along some of his fighting skills to him.
Oren began training with him twice a week. Over the course of several months, Oren learned much from the old soldier. Oskar would recall tales of battles won and lost, and the occasional adventure through far away lands. Oren came to see Oskar as a second father and a mentor.
He began to think about where his life was going. He knew he would not inherit his father’s business. That would be going to his older siblings. He had a talent with jewelry, but didn’t think he wanted to sit in a shop all his life. He was beginning to feel the call of the open road and the adventurer’s life…
