Though poorly named, these rare (mostly Faeybrin) beings are scattered throughout the multiverse and seem to be able to slip through the time stream of their continuum. Killing them ends their life and they move through the House of the Dead as normal. However, they cannot truly die from normal causes such as disease or old age; When they pass as the result of such, they are reborn on a different world. Their [eesence-ref] never seems to move to a final destination no matter their faith. Those beings having this quality are not considered immortal – they generally lose access to the memories and powers they may have accumulated. A Time Lord does not always begat a creature of similar nature – the Time Slip property is recessive.
The powers of a Time Lord manifest as the ability to slip through time. They emerge through the natural process of maturity and aging. They can be gained much sooner if the Time Lord is both aware of and understands their own nature. They range from side-stepping immediate physical contact, seeing the far-time of the past, tracking a presence through near-time, perceiving an Aura’s change through their time, or even moving themselves in time. Those that can see their own future (seeing into the future is much more difficult due to massive probability issues) often prepare for their own rebirth – becoming more powerful each time.
The powers of a Time Lord are activated using a measure called a Chrono Loci.
There is no quality of their Aura that reveals their nature. A few, once they understand their powers and nature, manage to prepare for and return to their continuum and recover vast stores of information and goods they accumulated and re-learn their powers at a rapid rate. The draconic spark seems to share a similar nature (though they do not lose their memories), as dragons can often sense their presence.
At first glance and how most see them is as a creature of chaos. Their ability to thwart death, to unnaturally accumulate wealth and knowledge, and to seemingly dodge the fate delineated by their faith/code or even lack of one marks them as a creature of chaos beyond the natural order. However, they still obey a cycle, a rebirth without power, and can be killed. There are rules that govern their existence. There is no mandate for a code of conduct or behavior they must follow. No Time Lord has ever been born to a truly immortal race. They are more often on the side of long term stability than order or chaos in the moment. This does put them opposing entities of and powers connected to The Void that would rend apart reality itself.
Their presence stems from an unknown source. Most do not understand how or why they acquired Time Slip powers. Those who survive long enough and realize what they are become burdened with an obsession to uncover their origins and a reason for their existence. Many become Followers of a multitude of faiths seeking an answer to this. Those who survive this become a watcher over their continuum, waiting for an Omen or Sign or just a propitious moment where their powers and knowledge can right a great imbalance – without knowing if that is, in fact, their purpose.
