The vast majority of Social Activity is an attempt to Influence a target.
A character can bring their Charisma to bear, with either theatrics (positive) or crassness (negative) both having an equal impact. In certain settings, certain signs, symbols, institutional displays, social status displays, and equipment can add to the effectiveness of trying to intimidate a target.
Target must be able to understand; the person attempting receives a penalty of -2 for every level under 4 in the language being used.
