The Story:
Bruckwell Orwell’O BartSon—”Lefty” to his friends, for his powerful left hook—is a son of the Greenmeadow soil. He grew up strong and simple, the son of a farmer who always had more work than coin. He wasn’t made for books, but he could lift more hay and chop more wood than any two boys his age.

His life’s direction was set by a childhood trauma. A visiting noble, resplendent on a massive, armored warhorse, galloped through the village. Bruckwell, a small child, was too slow to get out of the way. He was struck by the horse, the blow to his head leaving a scar and a deep, abiding fear of the great beasts. The noble never even looked back. That day, Bruckwell learned a simple truth: some people are cruel because they can be, and it’s up to good folk to stand in their way.

His father, seeing his son had little aptitude for farming but a strong body and a good heart, encouraged him to join the regional militia. “Go be a soldier, son,” he’d said. “They’ll feed you, and you can do some good.” And he did. He wasn’t a leader, but he was the most dependable man in his unit—strong, fearless (of anything but horses), and utterly loyal.

The Hook: The Soldier’s Return
Your adventure begins as Bruckwell himself arrives in the region. He’s on a month’s leave from his post and has walked the long road home towards Greenmeadow for the first time in over a year. He expects a warm meal from his parents and quiet nights listening to the crickets.
