Tattered Tarly pennons adorn the wall, of a half dozen undead lords of the fallen north – banners of fallen foes killed by Wendell Tarly and his companions.

Originals Found in library of Tarly Castle: A box to house the Horn of Larken and scroll describing it: “A lavishly illustrated short wood bound book on various figures blowing the odd looking horn. Many images show different metal bases with different ornamentation. Written in Dundarion, the text also describes the horns’ basic powers and how to attune it. Under it, in the velvet and silk lined (not rotted) box is what was obviously the impression set of a drinking or hunting horn.”
A partial written history. It’s 14 volumes of different ages and penned by different hands. The last set of 2 volumes is the years after they came back from the north – penned in what seems to be a woman named Alex – wife of Darnell Vaille. It speaks of the death of Moorlav’s elven wife-to-be, the death of Moorlav and Hirva, and the return of Hirva (revenant!); of a falling out, of Wendels increased distrust, and isolation. It’s worth 1000sc to any collector – it’s a fascinating tale. Buried deep within it may be secrets that the GM can use to spur the party to go north or elsewhere in search of adventure, soul rending secrets, and buried forbidden knowledge.
The “Legend of Caril the Pure” is sealed in a scroll tube, a near faded account of a story from the ancient northlands. It does not say where it came from, though maybe some research could yield further results. The writing eventually stops after many rambling notes about the state of the castle, the land, the weather, and his own crisis of faith. The last date is 150 years ago. The last entry reads “As long as my banner flies above Castle Tarly and no other, my spirit will protect these souls of those who died for my dream.”
> A RSN check can tease out that there is both a man-made dungeon under the castle AND some sort of older natural caverns – to which he retreated to. Also the hint to rouse Wendel from his depressive contemplation in the dark below the castle – and his banner – is in the last entry.
Certainly there is a massive volume on the subject of the ice statue – Mistress of Death Idol – all the experiments upon captives and the range of negative effects that were seen. It is bound in some sort of strange hide (human? demon? elf?) and radiates a faint chill (one of the ice crystal tears was spilled upon it at one point). The statuette came from a graveyard temple (the original home of one of the 4 in the Gleasone Convent) they desecrated in the frozen north. It includes some strange descriptions of some sort of large plant in the The Fields of Blood which drains blood and gives birth to the dead. The statue was raided to stop an attack on one of the fortress towers of the north hinterlands – it was the source of some energy for the strange plant, and the Pine Tribe shamans told the group that it may bring down a terrible curse if they destroy it. It also reveals the damage done in moving it and how fragile it is.
Tarly originally summoned a spirit/agent of Tizre’al to help discern the statue’s power. Tizre’al summons a worm, the worm holds a pen in its teeth and writes some account of what it knows about the Gleason Convent and what they have found – pulling the memories from those swallowed in offerings by the Cult of the Locust.
GERALDINE AELISHAN PENNED A COPY OF THIS WORK HERSELF ONCE SHE HAD READ MIDNIGHT IN CAVARIS. Her transformation made her mostly immune to the worst effects of reading the disgusting materials. The copies lose a lot of their impacts as the materials, inks, enchantments, etc. are not present. The copy is stored with the originals.
Tizre’al was summoned forth some years ago. He had been working to a similar end by trying to manipulate the remaining line of Culahey. Culahey has proven difficult to work with, since his ultimate allegiance is to the Unholy Trio. He gave up on this line a few years ago when he discovered the strange and powerful aura of Caril’s Heart. With the help of the Cult leader and Witch Ingris, the foul creature tricked Wendel into giving him the locket. With hsi growing cultists and servants, he has twisted the life giving and verdant powers of magic it possesses. It now causes a slow and painful wasting – a decline in appetite, it sows fear and distrust, weakness and division. The mass sacrifice of Braddon Bog will give the demon what he needs to start the process of re-awakening the Once-King, a doorway to the House of the Dead in order to reclaim a part of his soul. What happens to the merry band after this is complete is of no concern to him… Tizre’al will make any deal to sacrifice his allies as long as he can manipulate it to suit his ends – their usefulness is really only in guarding the fortress to prevent anyone from taking the heart away before the curse runs its course. Tizre’al divulged all this in a perverse confession to the husk of Wendel Tarly in the caverns under Tarly Castle – thinking Wendel would never see the living again.
> Feather returned to Tarly Castle and sought the spirit/husk of Wendel, using his wife’s cursed wedding ring to trick him into sharing this knowledge. She recorded it in the Tarly Castle archives of the Companions Library.
