Some of the fun in systems is pumping up characters and fighting tough things. This can be done in accumulating multiple “plusses” (positive adjustments) or devising a means of penalizing the target (negative adjustments). This can result in what seems like an endless pursuit of plusses, especially if a game system has no theoretical limits. While the iCore™ and i20 both use Resilience (in different ways), it has a different impact that leverages this ‘endless pursuit’. Defenses like dodge, parry, and soak all have different implementations and are more active or passive depending on the system, but Resilience just flat out reduces the impact of a successful in exchange for damage to the item supplying it. Resilience can also be a good way to take a toll on the supplies and money of the characters – reflected in the cost to repair or replace.
