CY 8431 The Wheel the Broke the Heartlands
In CY 8431, it was the Year of the Firewheel. A warlord calling himself Jansh appears out of the merchant cities of the south. His army laid siege to each major city and town, and took many of them captive. He sought massive quantities of iron to make steel. He had his fanatic mechanists fashion a great wheel of steel, and harnessed it with efreet. A massive war wagon spewing fire and oil and traveling so fast it went through or up and over walls. It decimated towns and villages. The host was threatening to cross the river and into Umbak. The Umbakians, leading a mixed host of their own, and the High King’s soldiers, drove it into the sea with great chains pulled by their own type of wheel. Huge swathes of torn ground were left behind, as if several giant sized plows had dug into it, running parallel from the river to the sea. The struggle between the two technologies ravaged every small hamlet and farmstead it came though until the firewheel extinguished in the sea and the creatures of fire were dead. Since then, machinists and mechanists have been thought of in rather a poor light, outside of Umbak
